Stories of cars you've seen that just ran forever with little of no maintenance

I’ve told this story here before… Relative has a Toyota Highlander with about 400,000 miles on it. Had it since it was 2-3 years old. Maintenance was sporadic at best but a true testament to the quality of the car. About five years ago I get a call asking if it was possible for the motor oil to...

I Built a See Through Oil Filter

I saw a similar concept today at the PRI Show. See-through filter mounts. Much easier to hold pressure as opposed to the filter canister. Not quite as cool to look at but interesting nonetheless.

    Brand NEW 1993 Toyota Pickup.

Depends on how much driving a new-old pickup is worth to you. I have a 1978 Corvette with 48 miles on it. I warm it up and drive it around the block every now and again to keep it running well. Been considering slapping new tires on it and making it a daily driver. Would halve the value in a...

Flat tire, what would you do?

I would try to find a used tire of the same model with similar tread... next option would be finding a NOS tire and having it shaved to match. Both of those can be time consuming so set of four it is, you might get a couple bucks for the remaining three...

"Insane Jump by a Buick La sabre"

I remember this from years ago, saw somebody post it on another forum today. (Yes, I know it's supposed to be LeSabre)

    Gasoline price check?

I'm in Tallahassee right now and Walmart has regular at 3.09. I just paid 3.69 there for 93. From what I've heard lately this area is close to, if not the cheapest in the state, which is unusual. Back home it's about 3.30 for 87 and has been for a couple weeks.

Cabin Air Filter Replacement - 2017 Mercedes GLE 350

I would have done the same but it wasn’t my car. Customer wanted it replaced because it was “time.” So replaced it is.

Cabin Air Filter Replacement - 2017 Mercedes GLE 350

Believe this was the original filter. Car is garage kept, driven about 3 miles a day. Replaced with Carquest 479954, which turned out to be a private label MANN filter anyways.

    Beware used cars with liens..

Exactly. It's not that complicated. I've bought and sold dozens if not over a hundred cars privately, not nearly as many as some people here but still a lot. Nearly all states have an official motor vehicle bill of sale form. Fill it out, do it before a notary if that makes you feel better...

Short OCI flush after oil pan gasket change?

I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe change the filter early if you're worried about debris in the engine.

Has Anyone Seen Pliers Like These ?

I've had no experience with those particular pliers, but I've always found these sort of "all-in-one" tools to be ineffective. For the same money or a little more you could buy a security bit set and some decent extractors and be set.

Vehicle Sighting - 1963 or '64 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible

Getting my models confused; there was a '63 and a '63.5 but I don't think there was a '64.5, or at least it was no different from a '64.

Vehicle Sighting - 1963 or '64 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible

I agree, the only car I think looks better is (unpopular opinion) the early C3 corvette, I used to own a 1968 L89 convertible in British Racing Green. WHY did I sell it? Oh well. I'm working on a '64 Galaxie 500 XL right now with a 429/C6, originally a 390 car. In decent shape. Has front bucket...
