    Maintaining a beater?

I picked up 05 Rav4 for a few hundred bucks last spring to scoot me the two miles to my farm job and back. 408k miles (around 200k on the engine/transmission). Busted sway bar end links, muffler was barely hanging on and the fuel tank straps had failed. The thermostat is stuck open but I just...

    Can you grease too often?

This question is for a fairly specific application but I'd also love to know how often you all do wheel bearings, steering components, etc. The farm I work for grows vegetables and that requires an awful lot of irrigation. I'm usually working in the shop if it's rained enough, and irrigating...

    "Water Remover" experiment

So there's a farm truck at my job with a pinhole leak in the gas tank, a 95 Tacoma that runs awful due to water in the fuel system. When we have the time I'm planning on dropping the fuel tank, cleaning it out and either patching it or using a product that coats the inside of the tank. I'm sure...

    Purolator PureOne Failure! 11k Miles

Purolator PureOne from my brothers 3.6L Pentastar had a tear in it after 11k miles. UOA is pending, he runs Castrol GTX HM. The previous OFCI was 10.5k and the filter looked great, so I was surprised to see the failure here. I'll link the last filter from the previous OFCI...

Castrol GTX HM 5W-20 10k miles

From my brothers Chrysler 300, he ran a purolator one I believe. I attached a pic of the filter.

    Purolator PureOne 10,560 miles

Filter from my brothers Chrysler 300, ran with Castrol GTX for 10,560 miles. UOA pending. He ran the last change 6k and Blackstone suggested he could do 10k. I thought the filter looked great, hopefully the UOA comes back good as well.

    Holy filter failure Batman!

Unknown brand filter off a coworkers 05 Chevy Malibu with the 2.2 Ecotec. 130k miles on it. I believe he said he ran this OCI some 7 or 8 thousand miles. Bulk conventional oil, only 2 quarts drained out when I changed it. I hope you can see the hole clean through the media in those pictures...

    Transmission Swap

I have a 09 Corolla with 171k miles and a dead transmission. The shop is putting in a used one with 73k miles on it, and are giving me a 12k mile, 1 year warranty on the replacement, which I thought was nice. The owner must feel good about this unit, since the yard he got it from only offered...

High efficiency high capacity filter for 2ZR-FE?

Hello BITOG, I am about to get some Valvoline Restore in an attempt to clean carbon build up out of my piston rings to stop or reduce my oil consumption. I had a thread in the PCMO forum about it, but I have one more question for you all. What filter should I be using for this service? High...

    Valvoline Premium Restore Question

I have a Corolla with the 2ZR-FE engine with 170k miles, and am seeing some oil consumption. These engines are known to get dirty/bound oil control rings so I'm hoping this eases the issue a bit. I know about needing to change filters throughout the OCI and to use a high capacity filter. My...

Oil reccomendation for 99 Kawasaki ZR1100?

It specs a 10W-40 to a 20W-50. It is my brothers bike and I'm helping him do some maintenance and a tune up. I don't know much about motorcycles, I'll tell you what I know about the engine. Clutch and the crankcase share an oil sump, it's water cooled, and is carburetor. Inline 4, and I...

    Considering a thicker oil

I have a 09 Corolla with the 1.8 2ZR-FE engine, 170k miles. I've been running 20 weight oil(always synthetic), and am seeing about 1qt every 2500 miles of oil consumption. I've been using high mileage oils (pennzoil and valvoline) for a minor leak, which has just about stopped. Would a jump up...
