Are there any high performance models with CVT's?

Interesting question. I would think a CVT should be the fastest option since it can pretty much go right to the engines' peak hp rpm and hold there, whereas a conventional auto or stick will be doing its best to stay in the power band and only pass through that point briefly while cycling...

Why oil burner only smoke on initial acceleration?

I was following an older oil burning Mitsubishi Montero in traffic through town, and I am curious if anyone can explain why it would only send "puffs" of blue smoke on initial acceleration after a period of no throttle? If the person was cruising or let off the gas for a brief stop and then...

    Car accelerate right after start

You said it's a manual transmission. Is the car moving when it does this? The rpms will flare in my 07 Accord with MT if I start rolling down the driveway in neutral immediately after starting before giving the rpms a chance to settle down to normal. It doesnt quite rev as high as yours, but...

Man buys Building to Evict Car Dealer!

When shopping for my wife's Avalon we checked out a few Lexus and Toyota dealerships, as she liked the RX suvs at the time. It very well may have been due to training or attitude differences between dealerships, but I could not get over the difference in how we were greeted depending on if we...

    2015 Avalon low speed creaking

I did not even consider that one. Have always heard popping with worn ball joints. Will definitely keep that in mind as something to check for any excessive play. I don't recall seeing zerk to pump any grease into them on this car.

    2015 Avalon low speed creaking

TBH, it is the wife's ride, so I have not had a chance to test all scenarios. I will ask her if she has noticed any difference in wet weather. I know the car does seem to wear the front tires quickly, although evenly. Attributed it to her being pretty hard on the brakes.

    2015 Avalon low speed creaking

I will take a look when I can pull a wheel off and try spraying with a little WD40. It pry can't hurt to try.

    2015 Avalon low speed creaking

It has been a great car and you are right about the firmness of the suspension. It is slightly stiffer than the suspension of my father ES350 of the same year. I prefer the stiffer suspension myself. I have not pulled a wheel of yet to take a look. Not sure what brand is oem but should...

    2015 Avalon low speed creaking

Our 2015 Avalon is making a creaking sound from the front of the vehicle when going over smoother bumps or undulations below about 25mph or when going slowly over speed bumps. It can also be heard when turning the steering wheel while stopped. The car drives fine otherwise. I noticed a similar...

    2010 Accord--Pitted cam lobe pics

Based on the fact that the timing components were replaced so early, I have to wonder if the motor was using oil and not topped up regularly during those extended oci intervals. When I first got my 07 accord with the K24 it was using about 1qt every 1500 - 2000 miles. If I had been going by the...

For those without Automatic Climate Control, when do you turn on the heat?

That is one option I do wish I had this time of year :)

    Mechanic charging for diagnostics?

This. I have never paid for a diagnostic on a car that I wanted to have repaired. I can honestly say though that I have never brought a car in just to have them tell me what the problem was. If I am going through the hassle of bringing the car down to the shop and dropping it off, I want it...

For those without Automatic Climate Control, when do you turn on the heat?

During the winter months, unless I need to quickly throw some heat/air at the windshield, I have always waited until the engine temp gauge is reading a normal operating temperature, or close to it, before turning on the heat in the cabin. My thinking has been that it allows the engine and oil to...

Broken Frame on Ram 3500 Dually Hauling Truck Camper

Does anyone think that the frame would have never experienced a problem with this setup had the truck been a 2wd, gas, regular cab model? Please correct me if I am wrong, but I feel like the additional weight from these options on the truck would not really have been a huge factor in this...

CV boot replacement as a maintenance item?

I just used one of the split boot kits on my Accord a couple of months ago. When I went to change my winter tires over to my summer tires I noticed the inside of the rim on the driver side was covered in grease. I had both axles replaced about 2 years and 40k miles prior with aftermarket ones. I...

Who has changed a fuel filter to fix a problem, successfully

I had a 1989 Cadillac Coupe Deville that ran and drove perfectly fine as far as I could tell in normal driving, but if you floored it, it would rev up but not shift into the next gear until you started to release the throttle. Fuel filter replacement solved the problem immediately.

    LSD acts like open diff?

I will probably start here and change the fluid. It certainly can't hurt anything. Will any synthetic GL-5 gear oil be acceptable, or should I err on the side of caution and go with genuine Toyota fluid from the dealer? Do different brands use different amounts of friction modifier, or is there...

    LSD acts like open diff?

'03 Tundra w/about 108k miles. When backing slowly up my packed gravel driveway the other day wheelspin resulted in only one hole being dug. Was told when I bought it last year the diff was an LSD and it does have LSD sticker on it. Is it expected to start slipping with age, or should I try a...

Opinions on Tiny Turbo Charged Engines?

We however dropped from an average of around 38mpg between 60 and 65mph down to about 24mpg @ 78 or 79mph, a 14mpg hit, which is significantly greater than going from mid 30's to 30mpg. This average taken while going through dead flat areas of Georgia. It may have been even worse when back in...

Opinions on Tiny Turbo Charged Engines?

I tend to agree. I think the tiny turbo can be fuel efficient if the displacement is sufficient to propel the vehicle at the desired speed without dipping into the boost. A 2.0 turbo on a sedan driven at 70 on the highway where no boost is likely needed will probably be very fuel efficient and...
