    Importance of HTHS and SAPS?

Actually, the car calls for GM-LL-A-025. I forgot to put that in the original post. The Signature Series looks pretty good, aside from the lower HTHS. The TBN isn't too much of a concern, since I change the oil at 5,000 miles or so. Is there much difference between Dexos1 Gen 2 (Signature...

    Importance of HTHS and SAPS?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll look into the other oils recommended. I don't put a lot of miles on the car, so while cost is always a factor, it's not too critical for me. Of course, if I can get equal or better oils for less, so much the better. What I gather from the responses is that...

    Importance of HTHS and SAPS?

I've got a 2008 Saab turbo, 87k miles, not burning any oil (well, there's a leak somewhere, but it's very slight, and I don't lose any appreciable oil). The cars used to have a problem with sludge, but that was corrected around 2004 or so. I know there are a lot of quality oils, but I'd like...

Amsoil 5w30 or 5w40 for Saab Turbo?

It's got about 165,000 miles, and runs well (I bought it about 1 year ago). The sludge issue in the oil pick-up was fixed after the 2002 model year (mine is 2008). I've used Mann filters for the last couple of decades, and I'll probably switch to the larger ones when my current stash runs out...

Amsoil 5w30 or 5w40 for Saab Turbo?

Thanks for all of the replies! It's a 2008 9-5. Owner's manual calls for 5w30 or 5w40, GM-LL-A-025 (which I understand has been superseeded by Dexos). It also calls for 0w30 and 0w40, but it doesn't get cold enough here (10*F once in a while, and trips to New York would also not get below 0*F)...

Amsoil 5w30 or 5w40 for Saab Turbo?

I've got Amsoil euro 5w40 oil in my Saab 4 cylinder turbo (haven't done a used oil analysis yet). The other option per the owner's manual is 5w30. The pertinent specs are: 5w40: HTHS 3.8 NOACK 10% TBN 8 5w30: HTHS 3.6 NOACK 7.1% TBN 8.8 Most of my driving is around town, not too stressful...

Amsoil European vs Signature Series Advice

First, thanks everyone for all of the info (not to mention the responses came pretty quickly). I've certainly gained some more knowledge about oils (for decades, I just would get a brand name synthetic 10w40). Ok, so a couple of questions: Generally speaking, does a 40 weight oil provide a bit...

Amsoil European vs Signature Series Advice

The 0W40 Signature does look like the best overall oil, but it's not listed as meeting GM-LL-A-025 or Dexos 1/Dexos2. Amsoil's site says if your car calls for GM-LL-A-025 (like mine), then it needs mid-SAPS. So if 0w40 doesn't meet it, I wonder if it's high-SAPS, which is why I was leaning...

Amsoil European vs Signature Series Advice

I was leaning towards the 5w40 anyway. I'm trying to find out if the 40 weight would give better protection (wear and heat) than 30, and the differences between the Euro and Signature lines. And it's bugging me that the list of specs didn't show up as a nice, neat table, but I can't figure out...

Amsoil European vs Signature Series Advice

I've been reading a lot more about oil on this site than I ever expected. Tons of info here, but I figured I'd post a question or two. I have a 2009 Saab 9-5 wagon that I bought a few months ago with about 85,000 miles on it (runs pretty well, no oil consumption, but can be a bit noisy when...
