Justify syn over dino because of better 'dynamic shearing'?

But Userfriendly, this is our beloved Redline oil. They would not lie or just market to us -right? Actually, I kind of buy into the argument. I have heard it mentioned beyond just RL. RL is just vocal and has charts to back up their claims. BTW, I do use RL in MT 90 and D4, but not their motor...

How critical are ATF changes towards durability?

Hi, I just looked at my Camry V6 auto and it seems to have a stock tran cooler. It this normal for most sedans? I thought I would have to add one. I wonder how well it works since the hoses go into the lower part of the rad? Thanks

    Castrol 0W-30 and #132 brew

So is the German stuff really that good or is Mobil 1 really that bad? In relative terms, of course.

Justify syn over dino because of better 'dynamic shearing'?

Userfriendly, Good question, I don't know how they measure it and wonder myself. Regardless, Redline seems to think they can. See link below and look at Figure 1. Figure 2 is for HT/HS. Also, they claim that dino can not do it and only claim for their syn. But I would expect a low/none VII oil...

Justify syn over dino because of better 'dynamic shearing'?

Leo, Not sure how close HT/HS tracks with the dymanic/temp shearing. Since most 10W-30 oil, dino or sys, have similar HT/HS of around 3, the HT/HS must not be able to reflect it completely. But I would expect at least some relationship. BTW, I pulled down some HT/HS SAE reports about a year...

This is printed on OEM Jeep air filter, good?

Based on some SAE air filter reports, the min initial eff should be at least 98%, so it seems good. On one SAE report, one paper filter was as low as 91% for initial eff. The wear is much higher due to the dirt being about 4x greater. Nice that they give you the data on the filter box.

    Toyota/Lexus P/N 90915-20004 and the Tacoma 2.7L?

I switched to 90915-20004 about a month ago on a Camry V6. The pressue came up real fast even after sitting for over a week and the engine runs very smooth. Interesting, I was already using Mobil1, so the smooth running was a nice bonus. Of course, it could just be a placebo for me. I was using...

Justify syn over dino because of better 'dynamic shearing'?

Hi, it has been said that syn will shear less then dino oils under load(basic Redline positon and BOSISTHEOILGUY has stated it in a post also). This less shearing, for lack of a better term, I will call it 'dynamic shearing' is when the VIIs align themselves under load and recoil back under less...

    Castrol 0W-30 and #132 brew

Ok, I confess, cheap wine is ok too. Just don't give me old wine, I want fresh wine - like Steve Martin in The Jerk .

    Castrol 0W-30 and #132 brew

Yes, but it is not the 'Elixir of Life'. Just a motor oil that was desinged by frail men. Regardless,I will leave the drinking of any motor oil elixir to IDRINKMOTOROIL. I prefer a fine wine or just a cheap beer.

Yes, I was thinking about the additional additivies not the viscosity increase.

    Castrol 0W-30 and #132 brew

Hi, found some German 0W-30. I have been using Mobil1 and #132. Any reason not to continue with the #132( Mola's ratios) with the Castrol oil? Thanks

The big question: Does synthetic oil increase the life of your engine?

Joe, I feel the same way and now keep my cars quite a long time. I travel and rent a lot of cars. It is amazing how fast the new car looks are gone in as litte as 25k miles(usually the upper limit for Hertz)- small dings, dirty carpets, seats and doors, rattles, damaged fake wood or cracks in...

I like Mobil's candor. Quite refreshing from a company.

Lowest Wear Numbers To Date with Castrol 0w-30 German on 2002 Honda Civic SiR.......

For the anal folks, like me, would using Mola's #132 brew hurt anything to get some moly in this oil? Like additive clash? Thanks

    A3 oil

Just one viewpoint, but a friend just came back from three weeks in Europe. He got a free rental upgrade to a car that was top-end rated around 200KPH. He told me they that they really don't care aout 0-60 times, since most cars have small engines that the middle class can afford. But they asked...

We sure have come a long way!

Get this! From 1916 Maxwell owner manual: Check every day or 100 miles: - check oil level in the engine, lubricated clutch, transmission and differential gear housing - turn grease cup caps on th 8 spring bolts, one turn - apply a few drops of engine oil to steering knuckles - apply a few drops...

    Engine braking -increased wear?

Thanks for your replies. Is that the truth! I have told her to always get off the road with a flat. Even if you have to ruin the tires and wheels. Some of the roads today even major highways just have no shoulders to safely stop. Also, one has to drive understanding that we all make mistakes...

    Engine braking -increased wear?

Hi, While teaching my daughter to drive a stick shift, I was telling her not to use engine braking to just slow the car down. Brakes being cheaper than the clutch and trans syn gears. However, she noticed during mountain driving I used lower gears to slow the car down. She asked me why one was...

Question About Magnet Use On Filters on Aluminum Block/Head Engines.

I bought two FilterMags and like then. They are actually cost effective if you try to buy the magnets (I don't have access to old HDs). The only misleading marketing is that only the large heavy duty magnets filter the best. You have to really read the specs to find this out. The one that fit...
