    2015 Toyota Yaris 5w30 recommended

The 1NZ is a terrific engine. Only 100 hp.....but rock solid. Don't over think the oil. This engine doesn't care. Pick any flavor of 5/30.....synthetic or conventional and roll with it. My daughter's '10 LB. 11 years old, auto, 150k miles. Lots of hard stop and go driving, idling, etc. Zero...

I Used to Visit BITOG Daily

If it weren't for the occasional bit of good info.....this forum would be an absolute dreadful place to post....even more than it already is. Do you remember the old SNL sketch with the IT guy that went around condescendingly fixing everyone's computer problems.....bashing them with passive...

    Short trip VS Viscosity

I'm far from an expert. But my wife's '19 Corolla is short tripped quite often. It's spec'd for 0/20. I found that M1 EP 5/20 is a heavy 20 with a 9 at 100° C. That's heavier than any other 20 that I could find. So that's what I use. I feel better about using a 20w...especially under warranty...

When you work at a body shop, and are too lazy to look at the other side of the vehicle.

Meh....people make mistakes. There are doctors who remove a kidney instead of a gallbladder.

Why we should love HTHS specs:

I've used Valvoline FS and several versions of M1....all 5/30 for it's entire life. My next service at 90k I think I'm going with Maxlife FS 5/30 or 10/30.

Lexus Toyota "Lifetime ATF" - baloney

I don't know why people insist on calling these transmissions "non serviceable". So it doesn't have a dipstick....big deal. You crawl under it, drain it, pour in the new fluid and do whatever song and dance your particular manufacturer recommends to check the fluid level. Frankly, after doing...

Why we should love HTHS specs:

What would one define as "high speed driving"? I do a lot of highway commuting in my 4.0 Tacoma. And at 70 MPH I'm turning about 2100 RPM....which doesn't seem like much to me. It would seem that RPM would play as much of a role, if not more, than actual vehicle speed. I plan to go with...

Spotted cracks on my daughter in law’s front Dunlop tires

About a year and a half ago my daughter snagged a curb right on the tire bead....enough to peel back 4 or 5 inches of the steel wheel. I bought a new rim, threw on a new LCA (just as a precaution) and took it to my usual tire shop. Alignment just needed a slight tweak of the toe. I was...

    Post your latest oil change

    '15 Tacoma 4.0, 85k Out: 5.5 quarts M1 T&S 5/30, M1 102 filter. In: M1 T&S 5/30, Fram Ultra 3614 This is the end of my oil/filter stash. Time to decide what's next.

Tire Business Article on Winter Tires

Agree completely. I run Firestone WinterForce tires on some stock steelies. Night and day difference compared to my DD tires....accelerating, turning, stopping....in a different universe. Yet I drive just as cautiously. They're there to help me....not make me invincible.

    Valvoline Numbers Comparison

I'm not particularly versed on that subject. But it would seem anything close to 3.5 isn't too bad. Mobil1 doesn't even list it.

    Valvoline Numbers Comparison

Thanks for the info. I'll stress that I wasn't at all nervous about running 10/30 instead of 5/30. Just genuinely curious about some of the numbers.

    Valvoline Numbers Comparison

Gotcha. So somewhere in the Dexos rule book it requires something pretty thin when cold

    Valvoline Numbers Comparison

And one other question then I'll abandoned ship. I don't own any GM vehicles....so it's not relevant. But why do you think the 10/30 doesn't have Dexos approval vs the 5/30.....especially given how close they are

    Valvoline Numbers Comparison

Actually that what I kinda of said. I just didn't say it right either. What I think (LOL) I was asking about was the viscosity index number. It's lower than the 5/30. What does that mean?

    Valvoline Numbers Comparison

I'm running it in 5/30 flavor in my kid's Yaris. Ran M1 HM that last 3 years but found the Valvoline on sale a while back. I'm down to one last jug of M1 T&S 5/30 in the stash that I'll be using this weekend in my Tacoma. So I have 5k miles to decide what to run it next. Meijer had Valvoline...

    Valvoline Numbers Comparison

True.....but I'm running an ancient design....1GR V6 that is perfectly content with whatever oil you put in it. GM approvals aren't really important for this application
