Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

I simply offered knowledge of some 10L1000 failures due to the wrong viscosity fluid being used.....and this was the warranty denial reason from GM, not the wrong fluid...the wrong viscosity.....causing slow shifts because the TCM is programmed to know at a given temp what the proper spec...

    Krown: Tests vs Real World

Fleet user...trucks stay in the Midwest, East Coast and Canada. Krown has been my go to. Oldest truck I have is an 06 at 550,000km and it's still on original body panels and electrical connections. 09 with 1,100,000 km and it's still on original body panels and almost all it's original...

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

This Ravenol stuff quoted as okay for ULV..... 4.4 cst viscosity....thin as compared to LV's that are around 6 cst.

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

So now it's about the add pack and not viscosity? Thought it was thick vs thin discussion?

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

GM is building transmissions that require ultra precise hydraulic flows to achieve decent driveability in transmissions that are far more operationally complex than older units with fewer shifts to make. If you think the 10L80 and 10L1000 are somehow the same unit.....good luck with that. I...

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

The 10L1000 has 2 things the same as the 10L80. Both made by GM, both have 10 forward speeds....it stops there. Allison was involved in the development and validation of the transmission, and allows their name to be branded with it. It has nothing in common with the previous 6 speed Allison...

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

That's the sticker from a half ton. I believe I mentioned HD (2500 and 3500 trucks in case you didn't know) half a dozen times, and that's the only trucks I'm talking about....and they are not CAFE units.

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

So why doesn't GM spec the Dex HP for the big new HD 10 speeds? The trucks they're in aren't subject to any CAFE rules. The customers who buy them are way more concerned with durability than a tenth of a MPG. They sure went to a lot of trouble putting massive coolers on the trucks and...

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

I've seen 4 GM HD 10 speed failures from fleet users who continued to use Dex6 because they didn't want to buy the expensive GM ULV fluid. Their oil supplier said the 'universal'/Dex6 they had been using in all their previous GM stuff (with excellent results btw) would be "fine". It wasn't. The...

Let’s change the “thick vs. thin” up a little: Mercon LV vs ULV!

I do know the 10 speed units in GM HD's don't play well with a ~6Cst (LV) fluid, they need the ~4 Cst ULV. Shift timing and slip get messed up by 'saving' the trans with a 'thick' fluid. In the GM case, the coolers are now HUGE and temps are very tightly controlled, incl an automatic warm up...

Lucas Oil Products Red N Tacky Grease Discontinued

The green tube HD grease is gone for sure, if they get rid of the Red, not a lot left from Lucas. Grease plants burning down seems to be an excuse I get from Chevron also.

    What's in your grease gun???

Out : Chevron Delo EP2. Thanks Chevron for discontinuing my go to grease for the last 20 years and not offering anything close in spec to replace it. IN : Klondike EP 1.5 Nanotech.

Can a grease be too tacky?

Looks like nice stuff. Using it in temps continuously below 0F might not be a good idea, and it might be harder to pump out of your grease gun but otherwise I'd say you'll be fine from a component life point of view. It will however make a bit of a mess as it 'hangs on' to things after it comes...

For anyone in Canada, esp Ontario, looking for Klondike stuff, ask your local NAPA if they carry it. I use some Klondike stuff (ULV and some grease) and it's cheaper through my local NAPA. Also can confirm, Klondike makes quality stuff and customer service is outstanding. If I didn't have a...

If T6 5W-40 when specified is out of stock, what options are there?

I'm using this stuff in one truck.....so far, impressed. Only thing lacking is good cold flow properties,

    TES-668, a great Multi-ATF?

Cool. I think every bottle of ATF in every flavor I have on the shelf says anti shudder, along with all the other marketing wank they all say. 668 is an Allison developed spec. Other than the limited bit of work they did with the 10L1000 (that doesn't use the HP fluid), Allison and GM guys have...

I tuned out when '668 was the same as Mobil 1 LV ATF HP' was said.

What is a reasonably long OCI for this diesel?

09 LMM... 20k mile oil changes on XSP (5W40), basic Fleetguard filter and 660,000 on the clock. Sample reports indicate a healthy engine and that I could go further than 20k. My 06 LBZ at 330,000 mi got the same treatment when it was working daily. Now it's my wife's daily and I just change it...
