Would Heavier Gear Oil Quite an Angle Drive?

is the ring and pinion straight cut or helical cut? (they were too lazy to show the gear teeth in the parts drawing) if it's straight cut I don't think you'll be able to get it quiet. If it's helical cut I'd be checking or play in the bearings and if those are good then the gears themselves.

    Valve clearances - Too tight?

I would say probably fine, but if you ever find yourself running way too hot then you'll be in trouble for your camshafts and buckets/shims (some engines have shim on top as wear surface, others have shim on bottom and the bucket has a special coating- I don't know what yours is) basically, the...

oil viscosity seems to drop quickly

looked up fuel dilution, and I'm a textbook case: common causes are lugging the engine, excessive idling, overcooled operation, and then the obvious bed injector spray patterns etc. Thermostat stuck open: check (overcooled operation) in town driving 90%: check (also overcooled operation since I...

oil viscosity seems to drop quickly

The engine was a whole complete unit (everything from injection pump and lift pump to the turbo, etc). the fuel dilution is something I hadn't considered. especially being that the injection pump is oil lubricated and I suppose any fuel that goes past the plungers would get into the oil. (I...

oil viscosity seems to drop quickly

I have an Isuzu NPR-HD, with the 4HE1-TC 4.8 I4 diesel engine. I replaced the engine with a used running takeout (129k miles) which I used shell rotella T triple protection in. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Shell-Rotella-T-15W-40-Heavy-Duty-Diesel-Oil-5-gal./14958329 (although I got it for $60...
