Bay Area Honda specialist rec, or am I being picky

I’ve been following Adrian Aceves’s journey with Honda and now his own shop. He seems like a knowledgeable guy and certainly taking pride in the job he does

    Honda Pilot's milestone

not sure why, but brake fluid in the pilot gets dark and murky very quickly. but hey, 10$ every couple of years is no big expense

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

Final part of the order came in, PCV for the Pilot. Looks legit, made in Japan. I don’t think this platform sells counterfeit parts, but rather some are “grey” as others have mentioned. Anyhow, the bearing will be going back, I don’t feel like Chinese made “OEM” bearing is worth 100$.

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

I partially agree with you, however 100-150% mark up the dealers are charging for the parts is tough to swallow for a 10yo vehicle. Same bearing at my local dealer is 250$.

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

The PCV is made in Japan. had it replaced this morning, and the original PCV looked identical to the new one.

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

For comparison, this is what the PCV valve packaging looks like that I’ve also received. Notice the difference while also manufactured not in US (I’ve had Honda parts manufactured in Thailand before, in fact the engine in my Civic is built in Thailand)

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

I called my local dealer and had them check country of origin/packaging of the wheel bearing they have - Canada and packaged in the proper carton box. This puppy is going back.

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

Well, I had no idea. Is there a “true” Honda parts online retailer?

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

Hondapartsnow. I’ve ordered parts from them in the past, never had any Chinese made parts delivered. Main red flag for me is packaging and quality of the stickers. Looks way off

    Honda OEM wheel bearing?

I’ve ordered an OEM wheel bearing for my Civic from one of the online Honda parts websites I used in the past, and that’s what I received. All in Chinese. Does this look OEM to yall? I’ve never seen Honda parts made in China. Additionally, bearing shipped in the envelope???

    Honda Pilot's milestone

I’ve used Techron 2 or 3 times. Not sure if it made any difference. We always pump the gas at top tier gas stations, mostly Costco

    Honda Pilot's milestone

Mine is EXL, and has no auto start-stop. I’m not sure what’s causing the batteries to die so quickly. Maybe my alternator is bad? Not sure

    Honda Pilot's milestone

my belt look pretty good at 88k miles and 8.5 yrs. It certainly lost the elasticity (looked plasticky), but had no cracks or missing teeth. I’m sure it would’ve gone another 30-40k miles with no issues. Tensioner, on the other hand, was leaking fluid, and needed to be changed. If anything, the...

    Honda Pilot's milestone

We’ve looked at the new pilot last year, even test drove it. My wife wasn’t very impressed in terms of not seeing anything dramatically different or better. I kinda agree with her. So we decided to keep rolling with the old one for now. I’m using the myCarfax app to track all the services, and...

    Honda Pilot's milestone

Brake fluid is very easy. I’ve done it with someone else pumping the pedal twice. And then I bout a pressure bleeder - super easy now. However, I’ve never noticed any difference in breaking performance after changing the fluid. Breaks are mushy before and after lol
