    Tire selection for small zero-turn

I got a small (36") zero-turn mower a year ago and it has the original tires (15+ years old). On dry grass and level surfaces, they work just fine but in the backyard, about 1/2 the yard slopes downward and I frequently spin one or the other drive wheel. What do I look for in replacements ? The...

    SIG - did I get a good deal ?

I'll admit, I'm bragging.... 😂 Got lucky with this one ! First raffle (and only) I did and won this. $100. Lightly used P229 Legion, with the original Sig carrying case and (3) magazines. Went to a local store with a range to try it out and they have these for sale new - $1449.

    Circuit breaker tripping

I'll preface this by saying I am comfortable doing basic electrical work including adding circuits and breakers to a breaker box. If an electrician is needed, so be it, but just seeing if there's something common to look for before calling in pros. At my son's house, what's happening is if they...

Plumbing / water softener install question

Looking to install a water softener in our house and I've never even touched one, let alone install one. I can do basic plumbing though and have installed a few water heaters so I think I can tackle this. Our house is plumbed for a softener too so that will help tremendously. Initially I thought...

    Plumbing rates ?

How are plumbing services charged nowadays ? At work, we have two side-by-side units (spaces) and the water heater in one failed. We have a working water heater in the other unit so we're not in an emergency situation. We've had (3) estimates done for replacing a 19-gallon unit (it can be...

    Toyota EFI additive ?

My wife just bought a new Toyota and looking through the maintenance schedule, Toyota says (recommends) to add their "Toyota EFI Tank Additive" every 5000 miles. Luckily, it only applies for Hawaii and Puerto Rico, so it must be hot(ter) climate related. Is this normal for Toyotas in those...

    YouTube is for entertainment

Every time someone posts a link to a YouTube, it seems like the "get off my lawn" or "yell at the cloud" types have to chime in with their critiques. A few of us repeat it every time that most of these YouTubers are professionals. Not professional auto mechanics (well, they are) or carpenters or...

    Remove rivet nut ?

The engine guard on my mower (new to me from my brother) has (2) rivet nuts and one of them is spinning in place. I noticed it was missing the bolt on that side so I got a replacement and this is when I found out it spins in place. How do I remove it ? I'll just use a washer and nut instead.

    "The balloon" shot down

Since more is known now.... https://www.cbsnews.com/news/chinese-spy-balloon-shot-down-off-carolina-coast/ Someone actually caught it on film from their house/yard ! They plan to recover whatever they can too and I'm sure they're not going to just tell the Chinese "come get your stuff".

    Honda 1.8L minor oil leak

We've got a '12 Civic with the 1.8L engine and while doing an oil change today, I see an oil leak starting. I haven't pinned it down but it looks like this area might be it: If you were standing facing the passenger front tire, this part is just below the valve cover (no sign of that gasket...

    Leftover oil oil change

All of our cars except my G35 use less than 5 quarts of oil per change so I've ended up with some leftovers that I planned to use in our '12 Civic I'm a quart short though 'cause it needs 4 quarts and I've only got 3 quarts of leftover.... What should I add ? 😂 I have't bought a single quart...

    Dealer mechanics w/ other makes

The thread about GM talking about how much work their dealerships do on Teslas has me wondering about this. This isn't a dealership bashing question or about their techs either. I realize a mechanic likely went to a trade/vocational school where he/she learned to work on any and all brands but...

    OBD, wheel speed sensor

I recently started getting a combination of warning lights on my '08 G35 - VDC, ABS, and SLIP. Typically this indicates a failing wheel sensor. I haven't checked yet and may not need to, but will OBD tell me which sensor it is ? If not, how do I diagnose ? One method I've seen is to use a...

    Catalytic converter heat shield replacement

Besides the simplest option of "do nothing", what sort of options are there for shielding a catalytic converter ? The heat shield on one of my cats rusted away and I got it removed yesterday. The 2nd one is okay for now but can't be far behind.... I suspect that factory/OEM converters are...

    Vehicle (new) moving between dealers?

My son is looking at cars to purchase and one we found has these entries in it's CarFax listing How / why would it move back and forth like it did from 1/23 to 1/30 ? These dealers are in the same metro area so my first thought was the buyer was at "Voss" and the sales group transferred it...

    Nissan/Infiniti P0171 & P0174

The SES light came on on me yesterday and when I scanned the codes, I get P0171 and P0174. Most diagnoses say to look at the MAF (or clean it) or look for leaks in the intake. This engine, a VQ35HR, has dual intakes, two MAFs, etc so the odds of both MAFs failing or being dirty or an air intake...

    Robot or human?

I'm seeing a number of links that people post showing "Robot or human?" as the text that's visible (the link itself is okay and works). This thread, https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/good-oil-drain-pan.351074/, has a few examples. It's not related to ad-blockers either. Just noticed that...

    Caliper replacement with parking brake

Replacing one of the rear brake calipers on a '12 Civic and I got stuck trying to remove the parking brake cable from the thru-hole bracket. The pictures shown are examples for reference. What's the trick here ? Checked some videos and some skip past this step, another used an open-end wrench to...

Honda Civic - my "stash" oil

Just realized that I have 2 quarts of Castrol Edge 0W-20 and 2 quarts of Castrol Magnatec 5W-20 in my "stash" along with a '12 Honda Civic that uses 4 quarts with an oil change. Who thinks the combination of Edge and Magnatec would be a great oil ? :ROFLMAO: Honda recommends 0W-20 in this car...
