40 years of riding and now I find out they're not made by the "MotorZickle Company of Germany"

    Vintage Honda oil

...and isn't it amazing how much longer engines ran after full filtration became common practice. Don't go by what you find. It's what is NOT in the centrifuge canister that you need to worry about. It's still in the engine oil. That's why you need to change the oil every 800 to 1500 miles...

    Vintage Honda oil

You cannot extend the OCI at all, even with pricey synthetic lube. The limiting factor is the centrifugal oil filter, which literally only retains the big chunks from the engine/transmission/clutch and cam chain guides/tensioner. That centrifugal gizmo, for oil filtering purposes, is like not...

    Marathon gas? any good?

'Bout a month or so ago I was searching for some info on line and ran across the press releases for the STP additives to be used in Marathon Fuels. Turns out "research" shows STP to be one of the most familiar brand names to the 'public' for automotive products. Plus it has a very positive...

    synthetic to regular oil

Starting that bike everyweek to keep the battery charged, or whatever, is gonna rotcher pipes! No, seriously, you're not getting up to operating temperature and not burning off moisture from condensation and combustion by products. An article I read a few years ago recommended at least a 30...

    Another ridiculous Castrol commercial.....

Remember Full Bore 2 stroke Synthetic?

Did anyone run Full Bore synthetic in their two stroke oil injected bikes back in the late 60's and early 70's? Blue stuff IIRC, came in a black metal 1 quart can. You could buy it from Yamaha dealers. Expensive stuff! Almost $1.89 a quart. Marketed by Yankee motors, distributing, or something...

    Finish Kare 425

Been reading here and on other sites about this product. Is it available from retail outlets, Advance, Zone or Wally's, or is it an on-line only product? Think I'd like to give this stuff a shot.

    BUGS!

I've found Behold works even better than Pledge because it's water based, plus it's cheaper. Use it on the whole motorcycle as a cleaner/polish and wax on trips. Oh yeah, did I mention it's great on bugs too?

    WD-40

Excellent motorcycle chain cleaner. Goo remover.

    Castrol GTX in can

Shelf life? How long was that stuff in the ground? I'd use it a quart at a time mixed with whatever I'm changing oil with.

    Quest for Better MPG

OK, what I meant was on the page I linked to there was nothing for sale it was just a place to link to the stories. Just (for once) trying to abide by the rules. Don't want anybody thinking I'm hawking $1500 fairing blanks. I think the accomplishments of these riders is commendable and is...

    Quest for Better MPG

470 mpg at real highway speeds. Over 100 mpg on a Harley Sportster. You can read about these accomplishments of the 80s on Craig Vetter's webpage. He's not selling anything here, and I'm not affiliated in anyway, just some dog gone interesting mileage stories. BTW my old '68 250 single cylinder...

    First hand high mileage experience

1984 Ford Escort, no air, manual fuel saver transmission (4 speed, but 4th was an overdrive ratio). Bought new, sold at 238,000 miles. Engine never opened up. Used Mobil 1, exclusively, changed every 5,000 miles or so. Motorcraft, but ocassionally a Fram filter. 1980 Suzuki GS550L motorcycle...

    Sears Spectrum oil

Years ago my dad used to use Sears and Roebuck Spectrum oil in our cars, bought it by the case, and a case back then was 24 metal cans. They still sell it in their automotive department. What I want to know is does anybody know who makes it? Got a Sears gift card I need to use and was...

What do you do with your old oil?

Used motor oil is a fine substitute for extra virgin olive oil if you double the amount of oregano called for in most recipes...although synthetics sometimes clash with the taste of basil. Make a batch of Moto Guzzi meatballs and spaghetti for din, delish!

    '69 bonneville

Right off the bat, your engine and primary drive do not have a shared oil supply. Engine, primary, and gearbox have separate supplies. My recomendations are. 15W40 HDEO in the engine. Shell Rotella T or Mobil Delvac 1300S. Changed every 800 to 1000 miles. The frequent changes is why I'd use a...
