TMoto, Thanks for a great contribution to this topic. Now I am wondering if the old cloths were always silicone treated. I did do a bit of research on Silicone and it is not a HydroCarbon based oil. There are also many viscosities & types of Silicone. Possibly not news to most members of this...

On this same topic of Silicone cloth products for firearms, I have gun socks that are impregnated with Silicone. What type of silicone would that be? Are there different types? Are there additives in Silicone? Silicone is a petroleum product? If so, then where are the BITOG tribologists...

As a response to the general theme of this thread which appears to be saving a few dollars on products which protect firearms worth $1,000’s or that your life might very well depend on. All I can say is, “Are you guys kidding?”

ChrisD46, I enjoyed your rust experiment using an old rotor. I found the poor results with silicone to be particularly enlightening (or reaffirming). Its great for treating wood but I prefer a light gun oil on the steel. As for these CLP products, I don’t understand why anyone uses them...

I wish everyone would change their oil more often than necessary. I work in the O&G Industry and I want to get back to the Boom times...haha BTW, what is the advantage to running HM oil in a newer engine with less than 100K miles?

I found a thread on BITOG and one user claimed this D1 ATF is Yellow Metal compatible. I have not been able to locate any supporting documents or other posts that make a similar claim. Can anyone tell me if the DELVAC-1 ATF is safe in a MT with bronze synchros calling for Dexron-III ATF?

It sounds like the greater risk is contaminants in the fuel from poorly maintained underground tanks. This requires a mechanical filtration like a secondary fuel fitration system rather than a chemical such as PEA, right? Not that I am against PEA, I use the product with success. As for sulfur...

I far prefer the PureGas-91 based on all of my research of the damage and lower fuel economy that results from ethanol, not to mention the greater stability of PureGas during periods of storage.

I have researched this topic and my layman opinion would be that the active mold is killed by the bleach; however, the mold spores could also be in other locations within the washer obscured from view. I have even removed the rubber door seals for cleaning.

I don't care for the "Like" options myself but whatever the forum decides is good with me. What's Facebook?
