    Coil pack going bad?

Same symptoms presented on my car which is the same chassis with the 3.4 It was the fuel pump. Took a long while for it to fail, but it was progressively harder to get going until it finally wouldn't fire at all. Change the fuel filter too. Mine was original and totally plugged which is what...

    2002 Impala 3.4 engine

I'm at 160k miles in my Alero with the 3.4 and its run lube shop conventional for all of its 16 years. When I did the LIM gaskets and valve cover gaskets, I cleaned the gunk under the valve covers which was not unsubstantial. I don't think the PCV valve was ever changed. I run PYB now and a Fram...

    Not happy with Autolite plugs

I recently changed the original iridium Delco plugs out of the 3.4 LA1 V-6 in the Alero. The back three were original at 150k miles..not bad condition either. I put 6 brand new Delco/NGK Iridiums (made in the States with Japanese parts??) back in along with a set of Delco OEM wires. Big...

1999 Malibu No Start but Cranks

This problem is everywhere on that gen Grand Am, Alero, Malibu, Monte Carlo, and other vehicles with PassLock. There is a fix for this that I've done to my car. You must bypass the system entirely because there is a bad solder in the ignition module for the security program. Otherwise you'll...

GM windshield sprayers on the wiper arms - ARG!

My Alero has this design. It's [censored] and typical of late '90s early '00s GM - over complicate and under deliver. Even with -45 C fluid the lines will freeze up if the vehicle sits for more than a day or two in weather like we have been having. I think the problem is the tiny sprayer holes...

    4T45E LubeGuard Red

Hello, I've recently finished a pan drop and filter change on my Alero 3.4 and its been a few thousand miles. I was thinking of adding LG Red to see if I can improve shift feel/cut down a slight shift flare. It had 7 quarts of MaxLife after not having had the fluid changed for 150k since new...

    2013 malibu radiator leaking

Would this car have the transmission cooler line fittings? If so, get OEM for both the radiator and lines to hopefully prevent weeping/leaks. The aftermarket radiators and OEM lines don't always match up well.

Sealed AT - No Check , No Service ?

My car had the same ridiculous instruction in the owner's manual. Being a GM product from 2002 they figured it would be a throw away car anyway, so it is easy to understand given that people don't want to do the preventative maintenance and this car wasn't exactly a brilliant product to begin...

    Under the head - 3400 GM - 304k Miles

The 3.4 in my Alero is at 152k or so and I've just done the gaskets with Fel Pro after discovering coolant in the oil via an analysis (and a slight LIM gasket external leak). Doing a little minor rust repair next month and I think it'll be in good shape for a few more years on the road.

    problems with Pennzoil

I wouldn't worry about it. GM V6 engines of your vintage and mine have a little noise at startup especially when it is very cold. I find with PYB and a decent filter it is reduced a little bit. The 3.8 is a great engine.

How many miles is a Chevy 3.4L timing chain good 4

The chain in mine is fine at 150k miles. I've just done the gaskets with the Fel Pro problem solvers along with all new cooling system parts, tensioner and idlers, old distributor shaft plug (slight leak), had both the alternator and starter rebuilt at a local shop (fantastic work at a great...

Car only driven 1k miles a year, oil change soon?

Those cars are a riot. He should be driving it more often than that or else what is the point of owning it?

    Litens brand?

Litens also makes the ACDelco one I installed in the Alero. Made here in Ontario I think too.

    Fel-Pro gaskets- Good quality?

I just completed the full monty lower intake gasket job on my car. Fuel o-ring and others included too along with valve cover gaskets. Excellent so far and I don't anticipate any issues since so many folks have had good experiences as well.

    2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Shame about the manual but the U.S. typically has fewer manual offerings from Subaru than Canada. We can still order a manual Forester and Outback, hopefully it sticks around for the new Crosstrek too. I imagine a stick will be available in Europe, Asia (its built in Malaysia as far as I know)...
