Airbag recall people hunting me down?

Scam alert! The only person I would ask about an airbag recall is the dealership's service advisor.

Oil Change Intervals 3k vs Longer with full synthetic

Never know, might make it to 1,000,000. Are you an Uber driver or such?

Is my low mileage V6 Accord a good candidate for VRP or a HM oil?

0.75 quart is quite a bit in 3650 miles on an engine with only 28000 miles. I would use Valvoline R&P for several OCI’s. It’s the simplest thing to try, and there’s a good chance it will clean up the rings and lower oil consumption.

High rate of failure in first year-NOCO genius 1 battery charger/maintainer

The Noco genius 2 went haywire a couple of weeks ago, wouldn’t charge any of our four car batteries. It would alternate between charging and then displaying the bad battery/connection symbol. I’ve had it for approximately 5 years, so not a big loss if I just toss it. The Optimate and...

The Dying Towns Of Southern Saskatchewan- 20 minute video

Family farms in our area have mostly all been bought up by large corporate farm companies. Some of the biggest land owners now are pension funds that rent land to these large corporate operations. In my 38 year career in construction I went from having meetings over coffee with farmers at their...

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

At 61.5 it’s my knees and back that let me know they’re not happy for a day or two after I’ve done an afternoon of under the hood car maintenance activities. Still enjoyable and worthwhile for me though, hopefully I won’t have to give it up for for a long time.

I was in the wrong and I don't care.

Seems like a poor business strategy on the restaurant’s part. Unnecessarily irritate most of their customers to make a few feel special about the car they are driving.

When to do first ATF drain/fill?

True, 60k is better than never, and good enough if the vehicle will be sold at lower mileage. A 30k interval is worthwhile if the intention is to get as many miles as possible from the vehicle.

When to do first ATF drain/fill?

A service interval which is not intended to achieve maximum service life from that transmission.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

M104, Did you replace that front wheel bearing which had noticeable play after tightening? I would suspect that bearing with the steering wheel shake you described. Also, you could try a new set of Michelins and keep your current tires. If the vibration remains you now have two sets of tires...

When to do first ATF drain/fill?

The trans fluid itself will still be fine, but how much break-material is it carrying in suspension? If it’s an easy to do simple drain and fill, I would. But it’s a pain because no dipstick, difficult to fill side port, trans fluid temp critical to an accurate level etc. then I would be...

    The Car Guy YouTuber

Most people who want to buy a house, raise a family, and hopefully retire someday can’t afford to trade in vehicles every three years so that they are always within warranty. Which really is what GM and other manufacture are striving for.

    Subaru Crosstrek?

Sister in law recently bought a ‘25 CrossTrek. I was chauffeur for my wife and her in her new car for a couple hour road trip. Road noise and power are ok but not great. It did feel well built, and has decent interior room.

Watched the video, it’s a shame that long term reliability is near the bottom of a long list of priorities, by design. GM (and others I’m sure) are very cynical towards their paying customers.

Best oil for 3.8 V8 twin turbo Ferrari engine

A 0W40 is only better than a 5W40 for extreme cold temperature (-30 deg) starting. Unless your going to run your Maserati in that kind of extreme cold weather, I would stay with the manual's recommended 5W40. Nice car BTW.

    Wife had a mishap today.

Several years ago at Home Depot a young lady backed her boyfriend's pickup truck into the front of our parked '83 Lincoln, causing nearly $3000 damage. She waited for me until I came out of the store, apologized, and we exchanged information. I got a couple of estimates, her boyfriend and her...

    Wife had a mishap today.

On a windy day a year ago I came out from the gym and found a huge dent on our Honda's drivers door, and the mirror broken off and hanging by the wires. Our Honda is old, but is clean, shiny and rust free. Obviously cared for. Probably a minivan or large SUV door did the damage. I sure would...

    Water heater advice

Our NG tankless heater is 4 years old and works great. We’re never out of hot water, no matter how much demand there is. There is a short wait for hot water to reach the second floor upstairs bathrooms for morning showers, but I think it has more to do with the distance from the utility room...

    Canceling Toyota care

The first three oil changes on my new Impala would have been free, but I did them myself (and kept the receipts for oil and filters bought). Peace of mind. On my daughters’, Mom’s, and MIL’s cars I’ve checked them after they’ve had oil changes done and have seen the dipstick laying across the...

What was the first car you worked on regularly?

The first car I owned and maintained was my ‘66 Impala sedan I drove in high school in 1980 - 81. With some help from Dad I learned how to do tune-ups and basic car maintenance on the 283 with power glide. I spent every cent I had to put a Pioneer stereo in. It probably cost as much as the car...
