    Quick lube disaster-any ideas

Agree with others to try the easy way first. JB weld, sand smooth and then use RTV on the whole surface. Let dry. Return to service. Or even just use RTV gasket maker, let it cure good and try it. Can't imaging what happened there. If an old filter was on so long the gasket had to be chiseled...

    Crank bolt torque

That's all I ever did on my chevy aveo and it's still running at 260K miles. Part of it depends on how you're going to be running it. If it never sees more than 3000rpm it's a lot different than if you're going to be running up at red line all the time. If it's automatic then you have to be able...

    Scanner Recommendations

Greetings Oilmen, Any recommendations for a scanner that will read live data? $1k is way over my limit. Just added a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage to the stable and am thinking about a possible Subaru in the next couple years. I think Subaru might have some proprietary software but not sure. Have a...

More than 80% of Americans can't afford a new car

I just bought one last week. Beautiful car. All I want it for is trips to WalMart and taking my dogs trail running. My gofer car.

    New Mitsubishi Mirage?

They rock lengthwise. That's why inline six is such a great motor design.

    New Mitsubishi Mirage?

Bringing in a car from Canada sounds like it could get very complicated very fast. I think a new base model Subaru Outback would go out the door for a little over 30K USD now. Probably a little more room than your Focus, AWD, and 2700lb towing capacity if you can believe it. Lots of...

    New Mitsubishi Mirage?

As I stated in my previous post: I bought two new Geo Metros, a 1996 and a 1997. They had 1 liter, 3 cylinder motors. They rotted to death at 185K and 186K miles. The motors still ran fine when they got towed to the boneyard. 7500 OCI's with M1 5w-30. That was it. No engine problems with the...

    New Mitsubishi Mirage?

It depends what you want to spend your money on. Simplicity is probably the top feature for me. I do all my own work and don't want to pay thousands for car repairs. And I don't want any car payments. I'm just looking for transportation from A to B. And don't intend on using for long trips. I...

    New Mitsubishi Mirage?

Well, that's true. I have two dealerships both about an hour away. A third over an hour. I do all my own work and one of the reasons I want one of these is because, from what I've read, they're very good and hopefully won't need warranty work. Parts for anything are online now. Quote from the...

    New Mitsubishi Mirage?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new Mitsubishi Mirage. The last subcompact economy car and last year for it supposedly. From what I see on YouTube this is a great car. Cheap, simple and bulletproof. It is what it is and sounds perfect for trips to WalMart and carrying my dogs around. Any...

    Would you use this filter?

I've had a number of problems with the threads on Fram filters over the years and got one with a cut across the gasket which caused an oil leak. After that I stopped using them and try to go with OEM filters. Or NAPA Gold.

Extra oil for 2 stroke break in?

When I was kid back in the 1960's and 1970's most people ran 20:1. Some 18:1. I mowed a lot of neighborhood lawns. My dad bought me a Lawn-Boy commercial push mower. Cast Al deck, 1 gallon tank, steel ball bearing wheels, industrial 2 stroke motor. We mixed 20:1 with 30w motor oil. My dad...

Lower incidence of diabetes and obesity living at higher elevations

Type 2 diabetes is caused by one and only one thing; intercellular fat. Eating fat. The standard western diet. And is always reversible by simply changing diet. Read "Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes".

The truth about oil change intervals and analysis

My daily driver is a 2006 Chevy Aveo with almost 260K miles on it. Still runs perfectly and I have never had to add a drop of oil during 7.5K OCI's. Use regular old M1 5-30. Did the same with 2 Geo Metro 1L 3 cylinder motors. Got 185 and 186K miles out of them before they rotted to death. One of...

Repairing the hole in the engine block with iron blocks by a Pakistani craftsman

I also use pure nickle rod or stainless to tig weld cast. Stainless almost always works beautifully and is magnetudes cheaper than nickle. The only problem is that the weld turns out as hard as a tool bit and can't be machined.

Do you really need to change oil annually, if driven only 1000 miles a year?

That's what I do with my 1993 E350 bus that I turned into a camper. I only put 1000-1500 miles on it per year. End up changing about every 5 years. Seemed like a total waste to dump good old M! after a couple thousand miles. I emailed both Mobil and Chevron with this very question. Mobil's...

    Brake fluid change topic

No. Tried that and it didn't work at all. The fluid doesn't migrate around at all. Chris Fix has an excellent YouTube video on how to easily change your brake fluid. I change it every 30K miles now and haven't had a problem with any car brakes since I've been doing it.

Urgent help needed - Ticking Chrysler 4.7
