    Emission-reducing oils?

What qualities would be best to reduce emissions from the tailpipe? Would it simply be choosing an oil which doesn't burn off, or would using a diesel rated oil in a passenger car keep emissions lower? My car is well-tuned and in good condition, and I don't have emissions inspections, I'm just...

Blower motor in a Ford-- where is it?

I have a '94 Explorer. The A/C condenser works, but the air will not blow out of the vents. Well, not reliably, anyway. Sometimes it will work perfectly, other times it won't turn on. Sometimes it will start to blow as I drive, other times not for a few days. I'm not sure where to start. I have...

    Re-refined synthetic oil

I'm curious as to whether it's possible to create a synthetic oil using re-refined base stock? I have no problem using products like Eco-Power or Valvoline's NextGen, but one of my cars has a turbo in which I use full syn. Anyone think Valvoline or another manufacturer will come out with a...

    5w30 regular or 5w20 HM?

Since most HM oils are thicker than their regular counterparts, would it be feasible to replace a regular, non-HM 5w30 with a HM 5w20? For instance, would Pennzoil 5w20 HM (or any other 5w20 HM oil) be comparably as thick as regular PYB 5w30 (or any other 5w30 brand)?

    HM Syn or HM Conventional?

I'm currently running Mobil 1 AFE 0w30 on a 10,000m OCI in my 200,000+ miles '94 Explorer, and the oil has found many small leaks (not enough to ever have to add any makeup oil). I want to change to a HM oil next time. Any reason to think M1 5w30 HM @ 10,000m OCI would work any less at stopping...

does not recommend the use of motorcraft 15/40w

I'm using it in my 200K+ Explorer now, despite the warning about gasoline engines. I figure if it was such a big no-no, they would put a warning on the oil bottle itself, rather than just one line on their website that most people will never see. Other than running slightly hotter, the engine is...

    1994 v6 Explorer...5w20 too thin?

I have a '94 Explorer Sport, v6 with 205,000 miles on it. It is NOT retrospec'd to use 5w20 like some other Ford models of its vintage. I've been reading a lot of Dr. Haas's material on the benefit of running very thin oils, and have decided to give it a try. I'm changing my oil this weekend...

2010 Ford Taurus Limited - Weekend Road Trip

I think it's stunning. I pointed on out to my wife and she said, "You want a Ford?" Why yes, yes I do.

    Castrol Edge 5w30 12,229 miles 2004 Volvo S80 2.5T

NO TEASE! Here it is: I have about 38,000 miles on the car. It's driven approximately 75% backroads at 55-60mph, the remainder in usually light stop-and-go city traffic. I don't drive the car hard. This oil was in use 6-7 months. This was just an experiment to see how Edge holds up. I'm now...

I just got my first UOA back from Blackstone! Now how do I post it? I thought I read some directions a few weeks ago, but haven't been able to find them with the search!

Maxlife 10w40 syn-blend for turbo Volvo?

Does anyone see any problems with using this in an 11 year old low-pressure turbo'd XC70 with 175,000 miles? I do 7500 mile OCIs and it takes about 6 months to hit that mileage, about 75% backroads cruising and 25% city driving. It's driven very gently. The reason I ask is because I usually have...

    Castrol Edge decision - 5w or 10w

    EcoPower motor oil?

I bought a case of it a few months ago for my Explorer, and emailed the company to see if they made a synthetic version for my turbo Volvos; a representative from the company replied that they do not make a syn version, but that the regular EcoPower is a syn-blend.

Anyone know of a synthetic oil available in the US that's made from re-refined oil? I've read about WM ST Syn possibly being a re-refined oil, but cannot find a definative answer. I just bought a case of Eco-Power recycled oil for my Explorer, but am a little hesitant to use it in my turbo Volvos.

Quaker state high mileage oil with slick 50

I just poured this oil into my 1994 Explorer V-6 with 195,000 miles on Friday. I'll run it for a 5000 mile OCI. I like to root for the underdogs.
