SOPUS adds Use By dates on cases

Have you seen the latest addition to SOPUS' manufacturing lot printing on cases?? Noticed this on a case of PYB that bought over the T-Day weekend. Looks like SOPUS / Pennzoil could be addressing BITOG questions on oil shelf life:

I just compressed the calipers for a brake job and both had a small bulge where the boot did not collapse all around the piston. Is this normal or a bad sign? Thanks.

    New Front Rotor Recommendations...

My '06 Malibu Maxx w/ 65k is due for new front pads (rears were done by the dealer with AC Delco Dura Stop pads. The OE rotors have been cut at least once (maybe twice) by the dealer under warranty. There is pulsing when the brakes get hot, typical is stop-and-go driving in the south. For now...

For those who run summer dino/winter syn OCI's

I am interested to know which dino brand do you use in your summer dino/winter syn OCI plan? I know that we can debate the savings using syn with a long OCI, but for those with cars that are still under warranty will typically follow a 4-5k mi OCI. Also given the economy, cash paid at the check...

The hamsters got out of hand...

Today a student's Kia Soul caught on fire. The scary part is that she had minor front end damage from a rear-end accident on her way to school. After class the car caught on fire when she tried to start the car. The cars on either side had fire damage, and were towed away before I took the...

I'm interested to find out from anyone who has a car over 150k miles and used the same oil brand and grade throughout most of the car's life. If you have done so what oil did you use, what oil grade, and what were the OCI's? Thanks

    BITOG Friendly Restaurant

Tonight I took my family to Fuel Pizza restaurant that turns out to be BITOG friendly with a lot of gasoline and oil company memorabilia. The choice to go there was based on the menu and I was surprised with the decor when I walked in the door. It turns out that the owners have a warehouse...

Dump it, drink it, or lighter fluid?

A friend's, girl friend's father was a collector of mini alcohol bottles. A couple years ago she was cleaning out her parent's house and she gave me several whisky, Amaretto, Frangelico, rum, and brandy bottles. I don't know how old they are and the liquids are still clear. Should I dump them...

My wife's '06 chevy 3.5 V6 grocery/errand runner is due for a 4k mi OC [OLM <10%]. Which would you choose from my stash of 5W-30 SN oil for a southeast with traffic stop-and-go 4k mi OC [temps have already been in the 90's]: PYB, QSGB, Hav DS, or Mobil Super 5k?

!!!!!!!! Why is Facebook being referenced???

While diagnosing a problem on my laptop I noticed that Facebook is being referenced when opening a BITOG page. Give it a try - go to the Passenger Car Motor Oil (PCMO) - Gasoline Cars/Pickups/Vans/SUVs forum and open ALL for the POLL!!! Quaker State VS Valvoline thread; a long thread that will...

    Have the SOPUS tides turned...

or this just an anomaly? Stopped by the oil aisle at the local WM and PYB was $3.47 & QSAD was $3.57 - no rollback or sale signs, just the usual shelf sticker. This is a first that I've seen with PYB is cheaper than QSAD; 5qt jug prices are still the same with PYB being more. Is there something...

Multi-brands downsizing due to economy or SN/GF-5?

With the recent SN/GF-5 standards, Chevron Supreme has been dropped with Havoline remaining as the Chev-Tex PCMO brand; there is a Chevron Havoline Syn Blend DS remaining that's Dexos1 approved, but that's it from the Chev line. I've found that Exxon Superflo does not have an SN/GF-5 PDS, could...

    DI hidden carbon problem??

I had a meeting this week with several service managers from a major auto manufacturer (not GM). Which gasoline brand and type burns the hottest?

I am trying to find which gasoline brand(s) burns the hottest and see if I notice a difference in warmup time during these cold (~20°F) morning temps. With added ethanol, the burn temps are increased as alcohol burns hotter than gasoline, but I am looking for low ethanol high burn temp gasoline...
