Two cranes lift a 737 out of a lake

A cargo plane that over ran the runway ended up partially submerged in a lake. I thought they would have lifted the nose and then dragged it out backwards but they use two huge cranes to lift it bodily, turn it around and drop it back on the runway. Impressive crane work...

    Hydrodynamic lubrication and journal finish

What part does journal finish play in the creation of hydrodynamic lubrication. Specifically can a bearing surface be too highly polished to drag the oil around and produce the wedge. If a mirror finish is not desirable what would the optimum surface finish be.

    Mercedes oil data sheets

Has anyone been able to find data sheets for Mercedes own branded oil. It's Labelled PKW synthetic 229.5 and the part number a0009898301aca5. With extraordinary arrogance Mercedes deliberately choose to omit the SAE grade so it could be either 5W30 or 5W40. Using the manufacturers own oil is...

Would GL5 be less than optimum for the ball bearing races. If you are wondering what it is...

An Intelligent (I hope) question about ZDDP

Say you have two oils and all other things being equal, one has 800ppm of ZDDP and one has 1200ppm of ZDDP. Assuming the oils are new, does the oil with higher level of ZDDP provide any immediate better protection or does it just last longer before the additives are depleted. What I'm getting...
