Grease for track-driven Miata wheel hubs

I picked up a 2000 Miata to be a dedicated track car. These cars are known to lose wheels when the hubs fail... the fix many Spec Miata racers do is to take apart the sealed hub bearing assembly, remove all the balls and races, and repack with a better grease. Part of the problem is...

Engine internals rusting and rust prevention oil

IMO not a problem to worry about... ...BUT since this is BITOG... You could try and do what people do to dehumidify gun safes: have a couple incandescent lights powered at all times... One in air intake, one in the exhaust. Frankly I'd be more concerned about flat-spotted tires, rubber hoses...

10W30 Castrol Edge EP w/ Ti - track use?

Quick follow-up: I did the track day, we got SIX 25 to 30 min sessions. I put 167 miles on the car and had a blast. No overheating, no ticking or knocking, etc. Here's a short video of the day, I will post a UOA when I send it out. I'll probably still run it the full 5k(3k to go). And a...

opinion of carquest full synethic 5w30

I run it in my wife's 2012 4cyl Equinox because it burns oil like many do, and I get it cheap through work since they're our primary supplier. I think it's something under $3/qt. I do have a sample I'm waiting to send off, it was run for almost 7k miles IIRC, down to 5% on the OLM with 2 qts of...

10W30 Castrol Edge EP w/ Ti - track use?

Well, I am actually going to skip the Gripfest event(the standing start single lap at a time event) and am just going to do the HPDE instead. Both events cost the same, so $175 for maybe 10 laps.... Or $175 for four 20min lapping sessions. No brainer. And the Castrol 10W30 temptation was...

Are these two Zerex Asian the same?

Ford Motorcraft Specialty Green is available concentrated, it is identical to Mazda FL22... Which is same as all the other Asian coolants. For the cost, the Zerex Asian is still cheapest even though it's diluted(at least as far as what's available locally to me)...

Are these two Zerex Asian the same?

According to this thread, all of the long life Asian coolants are essentially identical aside from color(exception being Toyota RED). Zerex was sold to Ashland(Valvoline)... so I'd have no reservations using either one, or mixing the two myself...

10W30 Castrol Edge EP w/ Ti - track use?

Well, I asked a couple B-Spec Mazda2 racers what they use... One runs 5W20 Amsoil Dominator... The other runs 0W20 Mobil1 Extended Performance. For full races. No engine failures from either after multiple seasons. The guy who runs M1 changes it after 3 race hours. So in a strange turn of...

10W30 Castrol Edge EP w/ Ti - track use?

2011 Mazda2, daily driven and auto-xed extensively, been running 0W20 PP with great results. Previous UOAs here Currently awaiting a UOA of 0W20 Castrol Edge with 100+ auto-x runs on it too, FWIW. I have a track event coming up on Oct 29th... It's not multiple 20min continuous sessions...

UOA: 2011 Mazda2 OEM filter vs K&N SRI

Well testing hasn't gone completely as planned... I drove an hour to work on Monday... only to find out that I had the day off(requested it off a LONG time ago because a 2 day event was planned, but ended up not being able to make it for other reasons, and forgot I had it off... ha). So that was...

    Conventional oil instead of synthetic

I also have a Mazda2 - in other markets it is specified to run 5w20, 5w30, and even 10w40. You'll be just fine. FWIW I run 0W20 PP or Castrol Edge and autocross it heavily, 0w20 has shown no issues. Also 5w20 vs 0w20 should be pretty close in viscosity at "normal" temperature(not way below...

UOA: 2011 Mazda2 OEM filter vs K&N SRI

And today(Friday) - traffic was a good bit lighter today which was nice. Temps weren't terrible, but still room for improvement. Hopefully I get a chance to make some headway on my project this weekend.

UOA: 2011 Mazda2 OEM filter vs K&N SRI

Will do! Baseline testing intake temps on my way home from work 3 days this week. This I with DDMWorks filter, and Corksport air duct. All done over 15-20min, all stop and go traffic going down Jefferson Avenue in Newport News. Car sitting 9+hrs, start up, and go/start logging within 2-3min...
