Drain oil in filter when reusing?

For people who use an oil filter for multiple OCI's... Do you unscrew the filter to get the oil out of it and then re-tighten, or do you leave the oil in and just fill the sump up with new oil? I'm debating which method would be better for the engine. Getting as much old oil out as possible, or...

    PP Euro 5w40, 2014 VW Jetta 1.8T, 8250 mi.

Got my UOA back from the Pennzoil UOA program. Blackstone says this is my first report, but it's not. My previous one was using the dealer Castrol Edge 5w40. This car is usually used for my work commute so it's 90% highway miles. Mostly 30 mile trips each way. This time, I did have a trip where...

    Castrol Edge 5w40, 2014 VW Jetta 1.8T, 8,250 mi

Here is a UOA of my last free dealer oil change. They used Castrol Edge 5w40, which gets a bad rap around here because it doesn't meet MB 229.5, but it meets all other important specs so I think that reputation is not deserved. This car is used for my work commute so it's 90% highway miles...

    High mileage euro oil?

I was thinking about what oil I'd use when my euro cars get higher mileage and if they start leaking. I can't believe there isn't a HM euro oil (at least in the US)! The closest I've seen is M1 HM 10w40 and the new Castrol Edge HM 10w40. The M1 seems very similar in specs to the 0w40, yet it...

    2007 BMW 335i - GC 0w30

Hello guys. Just got back my first UOA for my 335i. They list everything as normal, but I'm a bit concerned about the viscosity. I can't recall ever seeing GC shear down to 10.3 cSt. There is no coolant or water in the sample, but I'm thinking there may be some fuel dilution. Unfortunately, I...

Why are Xw40 weight HDEO's API SM?

Does anyone know the exact reason why 40 weight HDEO's are API SM? We know that the 10w30 HDEO's are SM because of elevated ZDDP. But SN doesn't have a phosphorus limit for 40 weight oils, so ZDDP should not be the reason for that. Interestingly, M1 TDT is SN rated and very similar to a HDEO.
