opinions wanted - oil for 05 Camry I-4

I would run M1 7500 for 5000 mile intervals at the recommended weight. Good oil for a decent price. Yes it's a blend but from what I have read here it's group III with some group IV.

    2003 Mustang GT 5W-20 RP or M1

Royal Purple gets my vote. I find it expensive but I'd run it if I had a GT or performance oriented vehicle that saw the upper reaches of the tach regularly.

4Runners Experiencing Foam under Oil Cap

In northern climates you would especially see this in garaged vehicles that are not run up to temp. If it's not on your dipstick or in your oil when you drain it no sweat. It's not something you'd want to see on a filler cap but I wouldn't worry about it. I have the 4.0 V6 down here in Texas in...

    Need advice on leftover oils.

Ok. I am a self confessed oil ho. I have 1/2 a quart of Mobil 0w40, 1 qt of Delvac 15w-40, 1/2 qt of Havoline 5w-30. One qt of GC, one qt of BC 5w40, and one qt of Royal Purple 10w30. What do y'all do with your leftover virgin oil? Should I mix them and run them next OCI? Dispose of it? I am...

how long oil lasts once opened

I once too was worried about moisture myself but as Jimbo pointed out, oil doesn't like/absorb water. Anyway, even if some H20 got in there, it's going to be burned off/evaporated the first long run of your vehicle.

    Castrol 5W50 low oil pressure!!

I run 5W30 Castrol Syntec Blend(bring it on Castrol haters!)all the time in my 2.slow -- It hasn't mattered if I run 5w30, 5w40, 10w40, or 15W40, I always get valvetrain noise(hardly audible clicking) shortly after startup. My wife goes nuts when I am sitting at a stoplight and I turn the radio...

    Oil Change SNAFU

Well I outdid myself last night. didn't use my latex gloves and ended up dropping my allen wrench and drain plug after getting hot oil on my hand. Ended up looking for the drain plug the better part of the night. I cut open the drain pan, tried to purchase a new plug at AZ and O'Reilly's to no...

    Lube oil shortages

Buster, I believe Lubrizol to be the big dog when it comes to basestocks. Just speculation but whenever I have dealt with them they seem to run a tighter ship than some of the others.

    switching to 5W-20...?

I say go for it. I have a new Tundra that specs 5w-30 and I have been throwing around the idea of trying 5w20 just to see if there is any difference. 3000 miles would be about as far as I would go with the city driving I do down here. I doubt 5w20 would seize the engine or what not. that being...

    Jetta and Esso XD3

I had the 99 VW Jetta 2.slow -- I ran everything from 5w-30 up to 15w-40 rotella. never had any problems. mine did not burn oil though. I do not believe that the VW oil specs even apply to your older vehicle. check the owner's manual. in any event, the engine is probably out of warranty anyway...

    Is Pennzoil recycled oil?

I read somewhere that in north america a lot of oil companies believe that the american public likes their oil to be gold/amber in color(I think those are the same colors, my color vision is poor). Personally, I wouldn't care if I was buying motor oil with base stocks recycled from 10 year old...

Mazda RX8 and proper oil question

I just googled rx8 blown engine and came up with a few links. Maybe off topic, maybe not but just to muddy the waters -- check out this TSB http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/docs/pdf/01-009-05-1450.pdf hmmm, moisture doesn't affect the oil. I don't know if I agree with that -- rotary...

Mazda RX8 and proper oil question

RP had this to say in its FAQ section -- scroll down and you'll see what they have to say about synthetic in an RX8 or any rotary engine for that matter. http://www.royalpurple.com/techa/faqsa.html#re0

Calling all TUNDRA/Toyota manual tranny owners

Surfstar -- I had to think about what you said for a minute or two but now it makes sense. It's the drivetrain that is loading the engine causing the RPM to be higher -- not fuel being dumped in. So if I leave it in gear and brake to stop, as long as I don't have my foot on the accelerator I...

Calling all TUNDRA/Toyota manual tranny owners

Hi All, Purchased a 2005 V-6 Tundra(first Toyota) last week with the manual transmission. I will try to explain the problem/phenomenon as best as possible -- I haven't called the stealership yet cause I can't stand the place that I got it from -- anyway -- when I am driving -- doesn't matter...

As my brother would say to me.....

"Smooth move Exlax!" Yesterday my father-in-law pointed out that my 04 Jetta was leaking oil -- approximately a tablespoon had collected under my car after sitting for 15 minutes.. After looking around the vehicle engine compartment for awhile it seemed like the leak was coming from a seal...
