    After trying a few top-tier oils in my 4.2 Audi V8 I've found that Motul 0W-40 E-tech

Is the only oil that hasn't burned 1 drop in over 1000 miles. Pentosynth, Redline 5W-40, and GC and Agip Synthetic PC 5W-40 all needed oil added at the rate of ~ 1/2 qt. per 1000 miles. So far, none at all with the Motul E-tech 0W-40. Would there be a reason other than the oil itself? I am now...

Winter oil choice. GC vs. Motul E-tech 0W-40

Price is not really important for the best oil. The GC is a little cheaper but it's availablity (green or gold) is sporadic at the AZ near me. The Motul is more expensive and is online order only. All things being equal what is the best choice for an 05 Audi S4 V-8? Some say ester-based oils...

So w/ the new analysis of gold GC, how do you guys know the base is ester/PAO still

Is there something in the posted analysis that would indicate that? Why is the Ca so low and Mg so high? Is this a good or bad thing?

I have Redline 5W-40 in my 05 Audi S4 4.2 V8 as the summer blood. How long into the..

fall/winter is this good for? I know I won't get near the point of compromising the oils low temp capabilities, but is the Redline 5W-40 an oil that would be good in harsh winter conditions and sub-freezing temps?

What is the disadvantage (or benefit) from the decreased Ca and increased Mg..

in the gold GC formulation? This is for emissions, I take it. Does this equal less protection? It seems that emissions and optimal engine protection do not go hand in hand.

What if it turns out that Bob is really NOT the oil guy after all?

What the heck would we do then? We'd be like lost sheep. I'm scaring myself for nothing. Bob is most likely THE oil guy.

What would give you the truest oil reading on the stick?

If your car was sitting for 1 1/2 hrs. would that be "too long"? It seems when I give my car the normal 15 minutes the reading is within normal limits. When I let it sit over one hour when still warm it falls to the "It's safe to add oil" range, but well below max. What's up?

What makes an oil an extended drain oil vs. other oils?

Let's say a racing oil like Motul 300V, which has a lumber-jack strength add pack and has the base oils to lube a freight train, but is not recommended for greater than around 5K miles OCI's; why would a "lesser" oil than a racing oil be good for 10-15K miles? What additives or whatever would...

Tech at 1 800 ASK MOBIL said T&SUV was NOT good for a car, even out of warranty

He said the detergents were TOO HIGH and would lead to spark plug fouling and certain types of corrosion over a long term. Redline also said the same thing regarding their diesel oils. I kept telling the tech at Mobil, "I know you guys are very strict w/ warranties and all, but if I am out of...

What would you consider the best oil in the world if you had to choose just one.

Price is not a consideration. So don't throw the T&SUV in there as the best for $4.99 or whatever. And all the euro haters, don't not pick a euro oil just because it isn't american. Viscosity is secondary so you could just be talking about a series of oils. The viscosity next would be an...

What exactly is the difference between a "high mileage" oil and regular oil?

What is added to the oil to have it be considered a high mileage oil?

Is it normal to smell gas on your dipstick (no funny comments!)

It seems every car I've owned had a gas smell on the dipstick. But now I read on here that it might not be normal. Is it?

Mixed 4 liters of Motul 300V w/ the Motul X-cess

I pulled 4.5 liters of barely used X-cess 5W-40 and put it in my girlfriends 1.8T (along w/ some Pentosynth I had lying around). I then mixed in 4 liters of the 300V to give it roughly 5.5 liters X-cess to 4 liters 300V. I figured it would be a logical way to get some of the polarity bonding of...

    Question on Griot's oil extractor

I am using the oil extractor as we speak and is it me or is this thing extremely slow? It seems like molasses coming out of there. Also, I pumped it a few times and I am not sure if this PUSHES pressure into the engine or just pressurizes the system, or rather, creates a vacuum, w/o pushing...

How much extra is "overfilling" an engine considered?

My dipstick was reading a half quart low after a reading. I added a 1/2 quart and now the reading is an 1/8 of an inch or so above the max line. Is this some thing to be concerned about? When the manufacturers warn about overfilling, is it in reality a much larger amount they are talking about?

Is the Mobil1 5W-40 that is available on some foreign Mobil sites and as factory

recommended oil in some foreign cars the M1 T&SUV 5W-40 that is sold here under that name? The Japan website for Mobil1 has a 5W-40 that is for cars. And Audi has an oil list that has mobil1 synthetic 5W-40 as an approved oil. Is this the same formula or is it different? [ June 03, 2005, 03:40...

How come everyone on here says diesel engines are harder on oil than gas?

Everywhere I read a recommendation for OCI in diesel vs. gas engines, the diesels are always recommended to be changed a good 10-15,000 KM later than the gas. And I thought diesel engines are much more efficient and that diesel fuel in and of itself has lubricating properties, much like leaded...

What is lube control? Is it worth adding to a new engine that uses synthetic oil?

Is it an ester blend like the high-mileage oils use? Is it synthetic? Is it like Prolong? Prolong is some esters, right? It seems if it is not synthetic based it wouldn't be good to add to a high quality synthetic oil.
