4 Vehicles Swapped to MC Yellow, 3 of Them Developed Problems

I have had no issues with the external water pumps. It's the internal water pump that went bad at 65K that's a little annoying. The issue with those is you aren't ever doing work "near" the water pump. It's chain driven and you have to open up the engine to get access to it. IF it lasts long...

4 Vehicles Swapped to MC Yellow, 3 of Them Developed Problems

No doubt the coolant had nothing to do with the hose. I've had zero issues with the external water pumps (like what's on the Transits because of the longitudinal configuration). The only internal water pump I've had go bad was the Explorer. Don't get me started on the transmissions in our fleet...

4 Vehicles Swapped to MC Yellow, 3 of Them Developed Problems

I just wanted to share a few interesting anecdotes. By no means am I saying the MC Yellow coolant caused any of these issues, but it's still interesting and figured worth adding to the repertoire on this site. Within the past couple of years I have switched 4 vehicles over from MC Orange to MC...

What are you working on today?

Been doing fleet maintenance the last 3 Saturdays. Still have another couple of Saturdays to go before everything is wrapped up. Today was a 2020 Transit Connect. Oil change, transmission drain & fill, engine air filter (cleaned the mass airflow sensor), rear brake pads & rotors with new brake...

    2016 Ford Taurus - 3.5L V6 (NA) - Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 - 7,269 mi

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll most likely just keep running it the way I've been and keep an eye on the aluminum.

    2016 Ford Taurus - 3.5L V6 (NA) - Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 - 7,269 mi

I agree. Good catch on the insolubles, btw. I am back and forth on shutting the engine down. It gets quite hot this time of year and I am sitting in direct sunlight. I plan to keep the OCI right around 7K at the most and test the next two in a row, which I don't normally do.

    2016 Ford Transit Connect - 2.5L DOHC I4 - TRIAX Synergy SRT 5w-20 - 6,231 mi

It was changed probably around 7K miles ago, if I remember correctly. I'd have to check the log, but I agree with you. I'll be checking the seal and anything else I can easily see.

    2016 Ford Transit Connect - 2.5L DOHC I4 - TRIAX Synergy SRT 5w-20 - 6,231 mi

Notes indicated silicon could be an additive in the TRIAX. I might have just enough left in the 5 gallon pail for a VOA to check it out. There are no intake leaks that I'm aware of and the air filter is changed every 35K to 40K miles. This fleet vehicle sees almost entirely city/suburban driving...

    2018 Ford Explorer - 3.5L V6 (NA) - Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-20 - 8,233 mi

First report on this vehicle. It is interesting to compare to my Taurus with the same engine though.

    2016 Ford Taurus - 3.5L V6 (NA) - Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 - 7,269 mi

Flashpoint is much higher than I was expecting from Pennzoil Platinum. I've usually seen much lower than that, usually around 380F to 400F. Nothing too concerning here other than aluminum more than doubling. The notes indicated that hard use or frequent idling could cause that result. Last fall...

What are you working on today?

Brought one of the fleet trucks home today for an oil change and front brake job. Replaced the pads and rotors. One wheel was so rust-welded on the rotor I had to use a torch to heat it up. Made a nice, loud pop when it finally broke loose. The highlight though, was my 6 year old son running...

PQIA Test Results - AMSOIL SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil

As @OVERKILL stated, that's not a valid counterargument here. First, I don't frequent this forum enough to call out everyone that I think is wrong. I'd spend all my time here and honestly, it'd be pretty miserable. Second, as was stated, your position was purely subjective and based on what you...

PQIA Test Results - AMSOIL SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil

Your disinterest is precisely why your comments are, in my opinion, out of line. Businesses are managed by people, especially small businesses. Amsoil is either a large "small business" or a "medium business", depending on how what definition you go with. Either way, your comments affect real...

PQIA Test Results - AMSOIL SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil

@cheesepuffs2 What I'm seeing here in your argument lacks a lot of perspective from a business' point of view. You've made it abundantly clear (ad nauseam) that you believe Amsoil is, to put it broadly, "overcharging" for their OE product line because you can buy "similar" or "better" oils for...
