Need help on the old car oil in bike/scooter war

Anybody has any idea on how to check the shear strength of a particular oil just by looking at its specs, you know the kind that oil manufacturers put on their websites that usually nobody reads? I must be honest that this European Car formula 0W40 is great stuff. Engine is quiet, revs happily...

Need help on the old car oil in bike/scooter war

Hey everyone. I own a small scooter that has a CVT (dry clutch) and a separate final drive that has its own fluids, completely separate from the engine. The max rpm this scooter see is 9000 rpm. I've been reading a lot on this topic and I can safely conclude that: 1/ The whole JASO thing is...

Oil disappearing on a 4 stroke??

Well I have done some checks. I check my engine oil level everyday using a dip stick as guided by Honda. 1/ Cold start my scooter on a center stand 2/ let it idle for 3 to 5 minutes 3/ turn off the engine and let it cool for 3 to 5 minutes 4/ get the dip stick out, clean it and put it back in...

Oil disappearing on a 4 stroke??

Where I live the ambient temperature is always above 80. I am running a 5W40 though. Might try some other brands to see if it helps. It may be overheating a little bit, with the stock exhaust. But the coolant alarm does not blink yet so I think it's still in the acceptable range.

Oil disappearing on a 4 stroke??

I did check my valves. They seem to be fine. Can it be that the stock exhaust cannot handle the new 150cc displacement and a racing camshaft with increased lift and duration? By using a racing cam and a larger displacement, the amount of air flow increased and the stock muffler is too...

Oil disappearing on a 4 stroke??

About 5000 miles since the boring up. The excessive oil consumption started when I did some work on the cylinder head to insert bigger valves. I'm using Motul. But it's the type of oil that Motul outsourced to a local company to manufacture under Motul's permission. Honda recommends to use...

Oil disappearing on a 4 stroke??

Well I drained the oil out and use a special tool to measure it. It does not leak. I leave it in my garage for one night, next morning, no oil on the floor. Maybe it's the valves then. A worn ring is probably unlikely, as there are no visible white smoke. As for PCV, I would have to check with...

Oil disappearing on a 4 stroke??

I know that even a 4 stroke can consume oil, but at this rate is it a little too much? 800 ml to 600ml after 1000km may be a bit hard.

Oil disappearing on a 4 stroke??

Hi, Recently my engine oil has been disappearing on me. I have a 4 stroke, liquid cooled, originally 125cc, bored up to 150cc, done some work on the cylinder head, put in a performance camshaft etc, stock exhaust by the way. When I change my oil after 1000km, it seems like my oil has somehow...

Changing engine oil for dry clutch scooter?

Thanka a lot phishin. I plan on getting mobil 1 extended performance or Motul 300V. I tend to overkill things but hey, using good oil cannot be harmful, at least to your engine. For my gear oil I use motul, but the product is made locally and the quality is for shat. Will I again overkill to use...

Changing engine oil for dry clutch scooter?

And one more thing, can I use Red Line Heavy shockproof gear oil for my scooter gearbox? Is Red Line a good brand? I'm not very familiar with this company and their heavy shockproof gearbox oil seems unbelievably excellent, a viscosity more than 75W250 but flows like a 75W90. If that's true than...

Changing engine oil for dry clutch scooter?

Hi Yes it is. The name is Honda Air Blade 125cc. Its engine is 90% similar to that of a PCX. I live in Vietnam where the temperature is always above 35 degrees Celsius, so using the recommended 10W30 oil will be less than optimal, as I know because the oil will lose its viscosity so I tend to...

Changing engine oil for dry clutch scooter?

Hi. I currently own a Honda 125cc scooter built specifically for my country so it's not very popular. I plan on changing the engine oil and also the gearbox oil very soon as I have hit 1000km on my odometer. However, choosing the correct oil for my scooter is unbelievably complicated. Honda...
