The Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil is available at my local Meijer store (Midwest retailer - MI/OH/IN/IL/KY). Noticed it today and was wondering if I should research it. I'll take your word that the Rotella T6 is a better oil. Good info, thanks.

Figured I'd bump this thread. Recently purchased a 2007 Volvo XC90 with the Yamaha V8. Have seen very little discussion about this motor and what a good oil choice may be for it.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I may switch to a 5w30 on my next change if there's no good reason to run the thicker 40 weight oil...although I thought I had read that the Rotella T6 has a more beefy additive package than many/most oils. I don't know what to say except that the owner's manual for my car recommends 5w30 or 5w40, and from what I've been reading I thought the older BMW 6 cylinder engines run better on a slightly thicker oil such as this Rotella T6. Am I off the mark on that? Will I be doing any harm running this...

Thanks again. Yeah, MN winter blows MI winter away in terms of severe low temps. Sounds like you have no worries about extra wear on winter startup with running Rotella T6 5w40, which I thought was a 'thick' 5w40? If you aren't worried, then I'm not worried.

Ended up having local shop put in the Rotella T6 5w40 today. In the future I'll do the changes myself. Bought the oil somewhere other than Walmart Will have to decide later on whether to switch to a different oil for the winter months.

Thoughts on Rotella T6 5W40? Seems like a really good oil and I can stock up on some for ~ $16 a gallon this weekend. In Michigan, so weather ranges from -10 to 30F in winter up to 80-95F in summer.

Delvac 1300 15W40 did not reduce (nor increase) the consumption rate in my oil-burning 1998 Isuzu Trooper (3.5L Isuzu DOHC 24-valve V6).

I thought Neutra was generally considered an inexpensive alternative to Auto-RX. Is Neutra not as effective as, or does it have a different specialty than, Auto-RX?
