Tell me about M1 5W-40 TDT

The Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil is available at my local Meijer store (Midwest retailer - MI/OH/IN/IL/KY). Noticed it today and was wondering if I should research it. I'll take your word that the Rotella T6 is a better oil. Good info, thanks.

    Volvo XC90 V8

What about Rotella T 5w40? Decent choice? Bad choice? In my local climate, temps exceed 90F once in a while during summer, and below 0F very rarely in winter. So no temp extremes, no towing, no mountain driving. Already running Rotella T 5w40 year-round in my 2001 BMW 525it. Would be very...

    Volvo XC90 V8

Thanks. Are those oil recommendations specific to the Volvo XC90 with the Yamaha V8, or are they general recommendations for the more common motors in Volvos (2.5t 5 cyl, 2.9 twin turbo 6, etc)? Personally, I'm looking for a mainstream oil choice. Is Synpower FE the same as 'Synpower' or is it...

    Volvo XC90 V8

Figured I'd bump this thread. Recently purchased a 2007 Volvo XC90 with the Yamaha V8. Have seen very little discussion about this motor and what a good oil choice may be for it.

    Took the Rotella Plunge!

I'm just ticked at myself for missing the 15% off sale when using Meijer credit card...$15.29 for a gallon of Rotella T6 synth 5w40 is pretty [censored] good.

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I may switch to a 5w30 on my next change if there's no good reason to run the thicker 40 weight oil...although I thought I had read that the Rotella T6 has a more beefy additive package than many/most oils. True or false? If true, beneficial for my usage or not?

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

I don't know what to say except that the owner's manual for my car recommends 5w30 or 5w40, and from what I've been reading I thought the older BMW 6 cylinder engines run better on a slightly thicker oil such as this Rotella T6. Am I off the mark on that? Will I be doing any harm running this...

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

Thanks again. Yeah, MN winter blows MI winter away in terms of severe low temps. Sounds like you have no worries about extra wear on winter startup with running Rotella T6 5w40, which I thought was a 'thick' 5w40? If you aren't worried, then I'm not worried.

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

Ended up having local shop put in the Rotella T6 5w40 today. In the future I'll do the changes myself. Bought the oil somewhere other than Walmart Will have to decide later on whether to switch to a different oil for the winter months.

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

Thanks hpichris. I must admit, I am looking for something readily available at a Walmart or other big retail store rather than something that is sold mostly at a specific auto parts chain -- isn't that the case with the German Castrol? From what I have read so far -- and I'm just learning about...

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

Great, thanks! My planned OCI is 5k-7.5k. Have never done oil analysis but might start with this vehicle. The owner's manual recommends 5W30 or 5W40, so I was hoping that the Rotella T6 5W40 would work well. Still somewhat concerned about switching to synthetic after the car seems to have run...

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

Thoughts on Rotella T6 5W40? Seems like a really good oil and I can stock up on some for ~ $16 a gallon this weekend. In Michigan, so weather ranges from -10 to 30F in winter up to 80-95F in summer.

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

Any concerns switching from conventional to synthetic? 2001 525i with 120k miles that has been running Quaker State (dino, I believe but not 100% sure) 5W40 or 5W30 the previous 3 years with the previous owner of the car.

I thought Neutra was generally considered an inexpensive alternative to Auto-RX. Is Neutra not as effective as, or does it have a different specialty than, Auto-RX?
