    High Mileage Oil Recommendations

Just wanted to pop back in here and say that I passed 300k miles on the Corolla, and I still use Kendall HM (now called Endurance). It's a very good oil indeed!

    High Mileage Oil Recommendations

Well, I'm 2700 miles in and the level has dropped to right above minimum from halfway with Mobil Super HM 10W30 cold. Hot, there's only a sliver on the dipstick. After my daily highway drive today, I looked under the hood and saw this, accompanied by the strong smell of burnt oil. Valve...

    High Mileage Oil Recommendations

Thank you for the recommendations everyone. I changed the oil yesterday with Mobil Super High Mileage 10W30. Could my past oil consumption have been a result of a weeping oil filter? I never noticed any oil on the ground or burning smells.

    High Mileage Oil Recommendations

Quote: Which viscosity was the Maxlife you tried? I tried 10W30 first then 5W30. Quote: In that case, maybe consider using 5w30 year round. Is this safe to do? The manual calls for both. Thanks for the suggestions. If mjk's idea doesn't work, I'll try a similar oil like Mobil Super HM or...

    High Mileage Oil Recommendations

I've done 2 Maxlife OCs. I didn't see any leakage, I assumed it was burned off. I've looked for Kendall everywhere! It is available online in 12 quart packs. I don't have the space to store 24 quarts (5W30 for Winter, 10W30 for summer). OCI has always been 3k miles.

    High Mileage Oil Recommendations

Hello all, I am looking for an oil that would be best for my '95 4AFE Corolla with 220k miles. The engine doesn't burn any oil when run with Kendall GT-1 High Mileage oil. However, Valvoline Maxlife disappears at a rate of a quart every 1000 miles. I'm not sure why. I would like to start...

Is Synthetic Blend Better for Older Engines?

Your answer was spot on. I've heard people say, even on here, that synthetics and dino lubricate an engine about the same until you pass a certain number of miles at which point dino oil starts to break down while synthetic doesn't.

Help! PC issues! BSOD 45 mins after startup?

My guess is RAM. Software memory testers almost never catch actual issues. I had a desktop with the same symptoms that ran memtest for hours without issues. I swapped out the RAM anyway. Issue resolved.

Is Synthetic Blend Better for Older Engines?

Is there a sticky or book for these acronyms and what they mean in terms of the oil (PAO, Groups etc.)? I don't know what they mean, but I would like to know.

Is Synthetic Blend Better for Older Engines?

Thanks for the information all. Seems like there's no reason to use blends at all, they don't excel in any category.

Is Synthetic Blend Better for Older Engines?

A stupid question? My understanding is synthetics can cause seals to change shape and wash away debris blocking oil leaks. On the other hand, conventionals provide less protection for engine internals. That leads to the conclusion that a blend provides the best of both worlds, not causing...

Is Synthetic Blend Better for Older Engines?

Is there any reason for older/high mileage engines to prefer synthetic blend over full synthetic? Until recently, most high mileage oils were synthetic blends.

    Strange Oil Level Behavior

Anyone know of an oil I can try? Kendall High Mileage is available here, but I don't need 12 quarts. Chevybadger mentioned Quaker State. Has anyone else liked that brand?

    Strange Oil Level Behavior

I've heard about oil burning issues with the '98+ ZZ and '93-'95 7AFE engines, but very little about the 1.6 4AFE engines, which is what I have. What would be the best oil for my engine? Kendall high mileage synthetic blend doesn't burn any oil and Maxlife synthetic blend burns quite a bit. I...

    Strange Oil Level Behavior

Hello all, Long time lurker here. Excellent website. I have an unusual question. Over the past few months, my '95 Toyota Corolla with 220k miles has had rather unusual oil level behavior. Since I switched from having the local place do my oil changes with Kendall oil and filters to Valvoline...
