    Oil Question

Hey all, just wondering what type of synthetic to run. I've been using NAPA syn for 5k miles about every 6 months. Pretty typical driving, 12 miles to work and back, some road miles on weekends. I'm wondering if the NAPA syn is stout enough given the fact that last week I drove for a quarter...

    Kmarts Website

Does anyone else find that Kmarts website is AWFUL when searching for oil? I know my local store has oil, but online when I search it rarely shows that it exists there. They have some good sales here and there but when you can't search for them why would I go there? No wonder they're going broke.

Oil Interval Mountain Driving Road Trip

I just completed a couple week vacation and LOTS of miles on the vehicle. When I left it had about 3500 miles on it. It's a 2.0 Subaru with not enough horsepower. Up and through the Rockies and Cascades at 65-80MPH with the engine turning between 2500-5K rpms up the hills. After hitting the...

    Proof Cleaners Work?

I posted a link to videos a couple weeks ago that had a guy with a bore scope looking at tops of valves before and after using things like Techron. Wasn't much change. So, my question, is there legit evidence that those cleaners work well? I typically throw Techron in once or twice a year. Would...

    Funny Story

So this one time, I posted a satirical post on a website that dedicates itself to oil and car repair. I feigned worry that my OEM Honda filter wasn't filtering well enough due to the opinion of many members that anything less than 99.9% @ 20 microns will cause engine failure if used regularly...

I'm sure these have been posted before but...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8i9qftqKNY In case you haven't watched "Chris Fix" uses a bore scope to check the tops of cylinders before and after using fuel system cleaners. Interesting if you haven't seen it...if you check his page out, he tries a bunch of different ones. I just posted the...

    7200 Miles

I have a bit over 7200 miles on my oil change. NAPA synthetic 5w20 and a $1.99 QS filter. As per BITOG commentators, I'm highly anticipating the explosion my engine makes from such a cheap filter. I plan on changing after about 600 miles round trip this weekend. That'll put me just under 8k...

    UOAs

I understand UOAs for fleet vehicles. You could save money. Lots of it. But why do so many people on here (aside from those of you doing ridiculous change intervals) do UOAs on a 3500 mile change time after time after time? Isn't the purpose to figure out the "sweet spot" to minimize changes? A...

    Kia and Hyundai

If my memory serves me, both brands are under the same umbrella? Also, looking (eventually) for a new car. I know they've had some weird engine issues (chunks of metal needing to be removed) and such, but otherwise...how reliable are they? Looking for owners and their views in the cars...model...

    UOAs

So when I read a UOA it seems (at least Blackstone) compares to "universal averages for the car and miles on a given oil." Is this correct? It would seem giving those numbers more than a cursory glance would be foolish. Like saying, "well, compared to others at your age within 2 months of death...

    Running car without oil

A neighbor shared with me a few days ago he changed his oil, drove his car for about 4 blocks, made a u turn, came back, and then filled with oil because he forgot. He thinks his car is making weird noises now. How much abuse can an engine take on no oil?

    Dipstick

Had the dealer do the first couple oil changes on Crosstrek. Thought they were always overfilling given it was about an inch above the top line of dipstick. Manual says it takes 5.1 qts. So, changed oil Friday, used a 5.0 qt jug, checked yesterday, about the same amount "overfilled" LOL. Is the...

    Crosstrek DI or PI

Are the Crosstreks (model year 2013-present) direct injection, port injection, something else, or a mixture of both? I've read direct, I've read port, I've read mostly direct but the port is for spraying some fuel on the valves to clean them since DI doesn't do that. Instead of Googling and...

    Oil Change

My wife caved and said I could change her Subarus oil! She wanted dealer while under warranty. The first 3 were dealer changed. I am using a Subaru filter ($5.50 each if I bought 3) and M1 0w20 as it requires syn and it is still under warranty. I'm excited to change oil on a car with an oil...

    Serious Question

Some days I check the posts and feel like I need to ask a similarly ridiculous question. So here it goes. If I haven't driven my car in a week should I do anything special to make sure I don't have extra wear at startup since so much oil has drained into the pan? I was thinking of getting an...

    Oil Color

Just checked the oil on my Civic with over 150K on the engine and 2500 on this oil change. I added almost a full quart makeup oil a few weeks ago but that has about 500 miles on it now. The oil color looks like it's straight form the bottle. I could drain it back into the empty quarts and sell...

    Eneos

I used Google to search the site instead of the useless search function on here. Found threads from 2011-2013. Nothing newer. Dealer oil changes on our Subaru have been 0w20 Eneos. Almost out of warranty so I'll start changing myself. Is Eneos a remarkable oil or the same as others? It's more...

    Subaru Crosstrek

Rumor has it Subarus are picky about bypass valve pressures. Is this true? If so, what are my options for a 2013 Crosstrek? Any after market brands that meet specs?
