Cost Cutting / Filling only to add mark-oil experiments continued--thoughts?!

Just going over my company books and in just the last 4 months I have seen a 14% increase in operating costs across the board. Next month all Florida companies take another huge hit because voters decided to increase min wage by $1.30 per hr to $10.00. Every 12 mos per State law it will increase...

Anyone willing to cut open a Fram PH10890 if I ship it to you?

Hello, I own a towing company and always run cheap filters. Fram jobbers and OCs are my fav for 3 decades now. I scored 250 Fram PH10890 filters from Lowe's online when they mis-priced them at $3.98 instead of $22-23 each. That's a better price than from my distributor. I run them on Ford PSD...

    Diesel VS Gas Prices

Here in Southernish Florida diesel and gas are equal in most areas with diesel being a few cents less than gas in others. Took this today at a Texaco. First time I’ve seen diesel and gas the same or less in a long time. I’ll take it!!! Murphy’s oils is even less $1.99 for diesel and gas and...

    100,000 mile OCI

Anyone think we can get to 100k OCI for new cars? Even medium duty trucks from Ford have 150k OCIs for the 10 speed transmission. (No combustion of course in a tranny). The trend has been longer OCIs. Mobil 1 AP...ect. Wonder if the technology is there for a “filled for life” just top off your...

Autozone has STP Max-Life filters in close out for $4.00 retail / scored a deal on ELs

Online and at stores all Max Life STPs are on close out for $4.00. Was told by my local Autozone manager they are discontinuing the Max Life line. Not sure if this is fact or fiction but they have gone from I think retail of $16.99 to a flat $4.00. He wasn’t sure if they were replacing the...

    Horrible Duramax Aftermarket Filter Mod

Regulars probably know I own a towing company and a full service repair facility. Had a young man come in with his father with a new-to-him Chevy 2500 with a Duramax—need brakes all the way around. Suggested an oil and fuel filter change bc the OLM was indicating due and since they bought it...

    NEW Rotella T6 15w40

Noticed Shell has a full Syn 15w40 and 0w40 added to their T6 offerings. Prior to this the T6 was 5w40. Not sure I see a reason for 15w40 full syn when there was already a 5w40 full syn

Special of the Day in Spain

A few years ago I was in Toledo, Spain for business. I'm staying at a small pension and the proprietor suggested eating at a little restaurant a couple of blocks away. The bartender suggested to me the "special" which in his thick accent was "Zshe Bullz Balls". I'm starved so said sounds great...

    Buying 2...on the back always....

Here's a topic that will get some people riled up. When purchasing 2 tires...or running a mismatched set...the new or best tires tires should always be mounted on the rear wheels. Doesn't matter if the vehicle is fwd, rwd or AWD. This is the safest and only proper way to mount the tires. We sell...

    People so unreasonable sometimes...

Thought I'd share a story from today....... Uh oh. Many of you may know I own a full service repair shop and towing company. We made an uh oh today. Lady brings in a very high mileage 2004 Honda Accord for an oil change. On the car is taped a for sale sign for $2500 cash. One of my oil change...

Observation of Mechanics and their tools...

Almost 25 years owning a full service high volume repair shop and towing company has taught me without fail when a "mechanic" has a fancy HUGE tool box stuffed with exspensive tools he's paying weekly or monthly for he probably truly su*ks as a mechanic. It's the case every time. Every decent...

    Suggest an experiment?

Hello. If anyone reads my posts you may have noticed I own shop and wrecker company. We tow a lot of cars. A lot. Every month around 50 cars become mine from tresspass towing and owners not picking them up. Some are super nice and almost new. Some total junk. The good cars get fixed and sent...

Is there a point where fitting to smaller and smaller microns has no benefit for engine longevity? Is there any data on this??

Fram Wearguard HD Black Heavy Duty

I have never seen this filter discussed here. I did a search and came up empty. This was the filter I ran on my fleet of Cummins 6.7 when I still had diesels in the fleet. It's full flow and a beast of a filter. Very resonably priced.

What do you consider high mileage?

I see many posts talking about high mileage cars and then see the mileage quoted is in the low 100k range. I personally don't consider thst high mileage per today's technology and engine reliability. When I was a kid if you got 100k miles the car was about done. Today to me thst seems like just...
