I have a 3.9L Dakota. They tend to sluge up. My manual says 10W30. I'd say go with that. Also you could try an engine flush. I use synthetic and would recommend that. Also, my oil gets dark at about 600 miles.

I think the way you can get a better price is if you are trading in a car and buying a car from CarMax. I've not done it. My guess that is where they can fudge on the price - give you more for your trade in and not haggle on the car you buy.

Definitely charge for a diagnosis & tell people that before you go to their house or if they bring it in. If you don't they will just correct what you say is wrong.
