    0W20 vs 5W20 base oils

If you are having engine noises with only 100,000 miles and have been running thin syn oils. You are getting exactly what you deserve. You need to quit believing all the marketing crap that they keep telling you.

    LLY Duramax with Amsoil

Why would you want to change the oil with 15,000 miles on it. Oh wait . You are the one paying for the overhaul not Amsoil.

Pat Goss' perspective on thicker oils

I am in the thicker oil crowd. Want to know why. Because I am paying the bill. My Ford Edge has 250,000 miles on 15w-40 diesel oil. Still runs perfect. Would it have done it on 5w-20. Maybe. But I know it did it with my oil. We have a lot of engines that run a lot of hours on full duty loads and...

    5w-20 and 0w-20

My Ford Edge should have been dead 200,000 miles ago for running HDEO 15w-40 oil in it since it was new. Has 250,000 on it now. Was supposed to have 5w-20 in it all theses years.. I just don't tell it that it has it in it. It is amazing what marketing can do.

Motor Oil for High Performance Cars

I wonder why no 0w-20 oils. Because they know the motor will not live.

Best axle fluid for Ford AWD PTU

On my 08 Edge I finally change my PTU fluid at 200,000 miles just to see what it was like. I had to drill and tap it so I could drain it. Looked black but didn't smell burnt. I just filled it with 80-90 Valvoline.. Its got 235,000 on it now. No problems yet.

Dreaded Ford 3.5L / 3.7L water pump - How to extend the life.

Its not a coolant issue. Its a thin oil issue. This syn oil does not lube the timing chains like a good 15w-40 HDEO oil will. Chains do not like thin syn oils. When the chains get stretched they put undo stress on the water pump bearings. Vibration and harmonics. Thin syn oil is dry and has no...

Running 5W-50 in Ford engines instead of 5W-20 / 5W-30?

Our 08 Ford Edge with the 3.5 and we have run 15w-40 HDEO oil in it since it has been new. 235,000 miles on it and the first water pump has finally went out. Had the Ford dealer install new pump and he suggested that we put in new timing chains but they were not that bad. He couldn't believe it...

    Ford PTU's and Oil choices

This whole PTU problem is blown way out of proportion. The failure rate is pretty low. If it was caused by heat from the exhaust it would be almost all of them.

Why drive gentle if hydrodynamic lubrication achieved?

I don't think that any engine with a slightly plugged oil passage would live very long. And I can't see how a oil passage would ever get plugged in the first place.

    Cold start engine wear?

Shouldn't be an engine in North America or Canada running if you believe that cold starts ruin engines.

    New GM 3.0L Dmax

The original owner may not face replacing it. But what is the resale going to be on the trucks in about 5 to 6 years when the next buyer knows he is going to have to do it. Or the dealer that is going to price that procedure into the trade value.

A year and 20K with the Accord Hybrid

Except you only showed the fuel cost and not the electricity cost. Kind of miss leading on the true cost of running it. A VW diesel would get the same fuel mileage without the cost of electricity. It just shows that the cost of per miles going down the road is the same with a hybrid vs a gas...

Higher viscosity = higher operating temps?

Well let me tell you that just driving a car down the road is not working it at all. You are only using about 20% of it possible available hp. Now put that in a engine in Agriculture or the dirt working equipment that are running 100% of their hp and see how long your engine last. And I am...

I never thought I'd see the day oil for a diesel would be 0W-16

I don't buy that cars are lasting longer. In the rust belt they are rusting out far faster than the older ones did. I sure don't see all these 11 year old and older cars on the road. Most are not even 5 years old any more.

    Best Gas Mileage OIl

The only way to know the real friction differences would be on a engine dyno for long runs. It would be the only way to keep the variables the same. Your test is a good thought but has no verifiable results that could be replicated

Recommend oil for 2009 Forf Edge

I have an 08 edge. It has had 15w-40 HDEO in it since new. 230,000 miles. Uses no oil in 6,000 mile change intervals. Runs perfect. If you keep running that thin oil your car is going to keep burning that thin crap. Anyone wonder why the same engines in Europe are always recommended to run...
