I bought some costco diesel in Prescott AZ and was told by the attendant that only three stores in the country have it. Dan

    MMO, the real deal.

I typically don't read or post in additive threads but I will say this, If your engine has a sludge, consumption or a ticking noise problem try some additives like seal conditioner HM oil or a cleaner additive and maybe you will find one that works. Other than that there is no need to use the...

I Don't Change My Oil - Test Results

The only way to know when to change filter is to a switch connected to a light added to the filter bypass valve letting you know when it is bypassing. If it is bypassing when the engine is fully warmed up it's time for a new filter. Dan

20w50 or 15w40 Brad Penn year round in Chicago?

I too am a fan of brad penn. I would run their 10w-40 penn grade 1 year around. An oil with lots of zinc like a diesel oil is not the whole picture, it's the balance of zinc and other adds that matters. Dan

    Benefits of Conventional over Synthetic

Many HP cam grinders recommend dino racing oil in high valve spring tension performance engines. They report fewer cam failures and longer cam life with dino. This would not apply to a stock engine and syn oil is superior in that app. Dan

    Valvoline VR1 SAE 30

Yes it has plenty of ZDDP. Good choice IMOP, I think it will only be good down to somewhere in the 30-40F range. If it gets cold buy the VR1 10w-30 flavor. Dan

    Leaking Fuel Injector

At 155k you need to have all of your injectors professionally off the vehicle cleaned. No need to buy new ones. Contact RC Engineering. I have seen engines destroyed from ignoring dirty injectors. The only right way to do it is off the vehicle. Dan

California Company Reinvents the Rotary Engine

Rotary's are dead with the big push for max fuel economy. Too much internal surface area to absorb combustion heat energy which only heats up the radiator and is not used to move the car. IMHO diesel is the future of IC engines. Just drove the new Chevy cruze diesel, nice car. Dan

    Is Royal Purple worth it?

Of coarse it's better because it's purple and my Brad Penn is better because it's green doesn't everybody know that?

Motor wear test results - Interesting read

I am so sick of seeing 540 RAT's oil test all over the internet. It is bunk. The best way to test an oils anti wear ability is to test it is in a running engine. Any thing other than that is measuring the gas mileage of a Caddy going down hill or measuring the wattage of a stereo amp driving a...

    New GM EOS and alternatives?

With high performance engine oils available now like Joe gibbs and brad Penn there is no need for zinc additives anymore. These oils are much better than a modern api oil with additives as they are formulated to work together as a engineered package and not a afterthought. Dan

HDEO in a Civic, I have a question...

Check for sludge build up. It also could be valve guide seals which can be changed with out removing the head. Try some engine cleaners like autor/x or mmo. Dan

    New guy,ancient question

As far as break in oil, yes I would use it. Brad Penn, Joe Gibbs and comp cams all sell break in oil. 200 miles is what I gather they say to use it. My preference for oil after BR oil would be a euro oil like castrol 0w-30 GC or brad penn. The Joe Gibbs HR stuff is very good but pricey. I don't...
