How important is the FIAT 9.55535-S2 spec?

Of course, this test measures ONE on the oil characteristics - I never wrote it's more than this.

Don't know if it was posted here already- quite an interesting find. And this GTL Shell isn't too impressive, Mobil New Life doesn't look bad, but there are better oils: http://bmwservice.livejournal.com/27699.html

How important is the FIAT 9.55535-S2 spec?

The document for Lukoil MB-Approval states that Approval is valid as long as it is published online - which would at least mean that whatever is there, is approved.

How important is the FIAT 9.55535-S2 spec?

With "Last update: 12/04/2014" it's fresh enough, I think (I assume it's an American date, so it's 4th of December, not 12th of April ).

How important is the FIAT 9.55535-S2 spec?

All I could find is that they used to produce at Rafineria Gdanska S.A., now LOTOS S.A. and that LOTOS S.A. is the sole fuel provider for Shell in Poland, so I guess the same goes for engine oils. LOTOS produces also their own 229.5 and 229.51 approved oil, as well as they used to provide oils...

That's why it's better to go the other way round. You start here: http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/229.51_en.html And then eliminate those you are not interested in . It's a fairly easy exercise and you end up with 3, max 4 oils to choose from.

Motul X-clean is also ACEA C3... But, actually, as far as I know, you don't need to use Selenia. The manual only states that ACEA C3 and SAE 5W-40 viscosity are a must.

How important is the FIAT 9.55535-S2 spec?

There's no such, as far as I know. I've read on some American forums, that they accepted Motul X-clean 5W-40 there as a service oil for Fiat 500 MA due to shortage of Selenia in the States, but no official info. After doing the research I will finally settle for Midland Synova 5W-40, I guess.
