What are you doing right now?

Got home from night shift at 6am, watched a few youtube dashcam videos and view some posts here, now going to bed. One more night shift tonight then the weekend off. I (we) have to prep for my daughter and granddaughter flying in from Australia next week. They're staying for 3 weeks and you...

    Favorite ATV brand?

We bought our 2018 Arctic Cat/ Textron Alterra 500 new in 2019 before Covid hit and it's been great. It was less than $6000 out the door. It's main use is hauling stuff around the cabin, putting the jet ski in the lake or going out to the fish house. It maybe has 200 miles on it now.

Smart Stop Start - How does it work?

Shift into 'L' then use the buttons to select top gear (my wife's 'Nox has the 6 speed). I do that whenever I drive it as the stop-start is annoying.

What are you doing right now?

Since I finally have a couple days off before my 7 night stretch of night shifts starting Friday I'm going to the shooting range for a few hours and then pick up my dad and take him to lunch. I suppose I better pick up my wife too...

Ever had a engine or Transmission failure?

1990 Dodge Spirit with the A604 'Ultradrive' transmission. 3 rebuilds under the 7/70 warranty and a 4th 14,000 miles later (car had about 86,000 then). I ended up taking Chrysler to small claims court since they didn't cover the 4th rebuild (I won). 1998 Ford Windstar 3.8L. Had it at the...

Safety violation does not end well, towing a camper

In some states (like MN) it is not illegal to ride in a trailer, New York (from what I could find) you can ride in a 5th wheel trailer. But no way would I do it.

change transmission filter before or after the full fluid flush?

My 2012 Rav4 is different than yours but I've been doing 30-40K fluid exchanges with a Mityvac 7400 through the trans dipstick tube. At around 170,000 miles I dropped the trans pan to replace the filter and there was not a lot junk on the magnets (I wish I would have taken photos). Go over to...

    Oil usage in newer cars

I think the 1.5l turbo (LYX) was introduced to the Equinox starting in 2018, and I'm not sure what changes were made to the engine that was in previous generation models (LFV). I'm not a huge fan of buying 1st year models but my wife really liked the 'Nox so my opinion didn't matter. It does...

    Oil usage in newer cars

Before the Equinox my wife had a 2009 Saturn Aura with the 3.6L V6 and I never went off of the OLM due to the fact that there were a lot of timing chain issues with extended oil changes in the 3.5 and 3.6 engines. I did 5-6K changes and when we traded it in with about 123,000 miles it didn't...

    Oil usage in newer cars

Is that same same 1.5L turbo that's in my wife's 2018 Equinox? It currently has 63,000 miles and hasn't burned any oil during the 5,500 mile oil changes. Most of the miles are highway though.

Favorite gun, owned or want to own

I have a Ruger Precision Rimfire and it's one of the most fun rifles I have. I put a fairly large scope on it (inexpensive Centerpoint 4-16x40) and it's very accurate. It's even more fun with a suppressor and sub sonic rounds- very quiet.

How Old Is Your Lawn Mower(s)?? And How Many Hours Approximately?

We have a 10 year old Craftsman (actually a Husqvarna) 42" riding mower at our cabin. Unknown hours and I replaced the battery once. Oil changes every fall (whatever full syn 5w/40 is on sale since I use it in the ATV and jet ski), replaced the air and fuel filter 3 times and the spark plug...

    Crazy dealer add on

I probably should have been a little clearer- I'm talking about the center mounted stoplights- those are the ones that flash, not ALL the brake lights. I haven't seen those yet.

    Crazy dealer add on

Wait- so those brake flashers don't come installed from the factory? I find them annoying as heck, especially when I'm behind someone who constantly hits the brakes every 10 seconds for no reason.

Reliable/Low Maintenance or Super Fun Vehicle To Purchase

I had an older Kawasaki Ninja 250 with upgraded suspension bits and that thing handled awesome. The liter bike crowd would always leave me in the dust on straightaways but I always managed to catch them in the corners. Such a fun little bike.

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

Our 2001 Windstar had about 155,000 before we sold it. Never had any engine (3.8) or trans problems but the rear axle had a couple of recalls due to them breaking. Rust was starting to form on the tailgate seams after about 10 years. It was a decent vehicle and was fairly simple to work on...

Do you really need to change oil annually, if driven only 1000 miles a year?

The Nissan in my signature will have annual oil changes before it's put away for the winter, and I'll maybe put on about 2,000 miles. My ATV and jet ski gets an oil change in the fall before those are put away and they maybe only see about 30-40 hours of use.
