Shockingly poor QC for AEM Dryflow

Yeah there are little rubber/silicone pieces all over the downstream side of the filter. Didn’t focus on them in the photos. Bought an aFe to compare (wanted to confirm fitment) and it’s looking much better...

Oil for MB with *warm* start knock issue

I might just drive it and keep note of it. I don’t think an engine-out main bearing replacement is the right move value-wise. Scoured eBay just now and found a few sub 60K mile M273 longblocks for ~$2000. Worst case scenario (if the crank is ruined), I could go that route. (Might even buy one...

Oil for MB with *warm* start knock issue

So I made sure to buy a car that was out of the VIN range for this issue. But I do think it’s related to this thread here. http://www.mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w204/248749-c300-engine-noise.html https://www.benzworld.org/threads/help-c300-engine-noise-on-start-up.1590121/ The explanation is...

Oil for MB with *warm* start knock issue

Purchased a garage queen 2009 CLK550 with 60K miles. Car is in pristine condition, but I realized it suffers from the often hard-to-replicate warm start knock issue that plagues some M272 V6s and M273 V8s. If the car is up to temp, turned off, and then turned on again around 45 minutes to 2...

Need oil recommendation for high rpm Honda

OP here with an update: Drove the car hard all summer, including track time, on M1 0W40 for about 4K miles. Didn't burn a drop the first 3K miles, starting to burn a little bit now. Most likely will swap out for another fill of 0W40 soon.

Need oil recommendation for high rpm Honda

Finally changing the oil this afternoon with a 5qt jug of M1 0W40. Had a bit of a scare after a longer road trip, consumed roughly another 1/3rd quart in 800 miles. This is super unusual for this car, so I'm hoping that the current fill is the issue...

Need oil recommendation for high rpm Honda

Okay great--headed off to Walmart to exchange the M1 EP 5W30 I have sitting here for some M1 0W40. Would this oil also be appropriate for winter usage? (New England, think 0F to 40F).

Need oil recommendation for high rpm Honda

2011 Civic Si. ~71000 miles. Unmodified for 60K miles, didn't consume much oil then (maybe 1/3qt every 5K). It was run with whatever oil I had on the shelf basically (PP or M1 EP 5W30, didn't matter). Currently modified with bigger cams, slightly ported oil pump, slightly larger sump, and too...

Thanks for the welcome! I have oil temp and pressure on the weekend car, the primary car is my daily and I figured it wasn't as extreme a setup and hence didn't warrant those gauges.

Using Lower Octane in the Winter

    Oil for high-rpm honda motors

I have two motors that I need oil recommendations on: 1) Stock longblock K20A (2.0L, 86x86mm), ~230WHP, running it to 8.5K daily. Motor has 55K miles on it, and running an open element air filter. 2) Built K24 block (Supertech 12.5:1 4032 alloy pistons), ported K20A head, big valves, big cams...
