HPL Engine Cleaner 30 (My impressions after use).

What constitutes a "dirty" engine? I can't imagine that an engine with a small, immeasurable, amount of varnish would ever have an oil related issue.....unless any varnish is considered an issue?

What oil should I run in my 2011 LX570 - Switching from 0w20-5w30

Go to Walmart and pick up whatever brand of 5w30 full synthetic that looks good to you. SuperTech. Mobil1. Valvoline. Etc. It doesn't matter. Any of them will work. I think you'll find as a side benefit, that the engine at idle will be mechanically slightly quieter.

Early Oil Change on Brand New Vehicle a Good Idea?

Metal particles big enough to see in a new vehicle that has an oil filter? Seems a bit strange to me. I've changed a lot of oil in my 65 years and have yet to see that. The wife's 2012 Highlander got it's 1st oil change at 10,000 miles and every 10,000 since then until Covid came along. Today...

Oil for a known fuel diluter - 5w30 Ford 2.0 ecoboost

Ford suggests Motorcraft semi-syn? I'd use that in the 5w30 variety.

Help me plan a strategy for a neglected Kia

No doubt, you should run some HPL through it, follow that with a complete engine rebuild and then another round of HPL, just to be sure.

Used Jeep Grand Cherokee with Hemi and no reported oil changes

Good deal with 32K miles and the car looks well cared for otherwise with no warranty work? Buying from a dealer? Ask for the previous owners contact info.

Photo: under valve cover. 16 Trax 80K.

The OP's engine looks great. Those concerned about the varnish, can you get me a measurement on it's thickness?

What is it that you are trying to achieve with the tune and oil change and treatment etc?

    Ford 6.2L oil consumption

Keep an eye on it and keep doing what you're doing. It could just as easily be that it didn't deposit quite as much fuel in the oil this time around. I wouldn't change anything until I was convinced of an issue.

2018 Toyota Corolla Oil Change Interval?

Since Covid started, my wife works from home. Her 2012 Highlander (currently at about 135,000 miles) went from driving 50 miles round trip on the freeway every day (to a parking deck) to 2 trips to church every week (6 miles week) and a 5 mile round trip grocery shopping once a week. Once or...

    Alternating Oil Brands

If it makes him happy, he could use a different brand every time. The vehicle won't care.

Never Change Oil - Delvac Challenge

I like it. We need to settle back for a bit. This could take a while....... Unless something else fails first, this car will be well into the 300's before it dies. :)

    Oil for modified EcoBoost

You can run any quality 5W-30 oil and the engine won't care. The transmission however will soon die.

2022 Honda Ridgeline - Is VCM OK Now?

All Ridgeline's through 2023 still run the SOHC J35. I believe only the newest Pilot has the DOHC version. The new Honda mfg'd 10 speed is also only available in the newest Pilot. The 6 speed was a Honda made product, I believe, and has been trouble for many. The 9 speed was ZF developed and has...

Fuel dilution - how harmful, how much wear?

Then add "situation" to "vehicle/oil specific" reply.

Fuel dilution - how harmful, how much wear?

I suspect some part of the answer is vehicle/oil specific. A friend had a 2016 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost. I believe it is considered a "diluter". Pat runs parts all around the southeast for an industrial supplier and in around 6 years ran up 465,000 miles on his truck and only got rid of it...

Is there such a thing as an unreliable U.S. new car today?

A friend once described his Mitsubishi and the "only car made that had factory installed wooden crankshaft bearings".
