    Flush OAT/IAT mixture

OK, so when I mentioned "descaler", I meant that the prestone flush mentioned it could clean out scale. I did find a higher prestone flush and bought some of it. It mentioned it was designed for blown head gaskets and gunked coolant. So at some point I'll do one of my "super flushes" which is...

    Flush OAT/IAT mixture

Hello all. I'm getting ready to work with a mechanic friend of mine on replacing my intake manifold gasket, as I've had an issue with my coolant gunking up and rendering my coolant level sensor useless, as well as losing coolant over time. And potential performance issues as well. Of course...

    gunk on coolant sensor?

Thanks for the info. What is the best DEX replacement you guys would recommend? I'll keep my eye out in google searches and the like. I'll also have to see if the dealer or Raben can do the flush, clean, and refill since I don't have a garage anymore. Which would you recommend between a dealer...

    gunk on coolant sensor?

I'd say about 2 years ago, I did basically as good of a flush as I could do. Ran some prestone cleaner in the coolant leading up to the flush, emptied it out, removed the thermostat, ran a hose through it will the car was running, put in some distilled water and prestone cleaner, ran on that for...

    gunk on coolant sensor?

To a limited degree, yes. Mostly just checked power getting to the sensor. Not as intensive of a check as I would like but I've been busy the past week or so.

    gunk on coolant sensor?

I recently had problems with my coolant light staying on despite my coolant level being high. I got a new coolant level sensor and it seemed to have worked for about a month. Then it would say "low coolant" until the engine warmed up. (I already bled the air out of the line). Now, it just says...

12V source when car is running?

Do you guys know where I can find out what wire this is? The wiring diagrams in my haynes manual didn't seem to offer much. I actually tried tapping from my headlights. The problem is that ground switches, not the +12v wires. I remember seeing something about an orange wire on the ignition...

    "Low Coolant" light doesn't vanish.

Well yeah. I just figured an actual BAD sender would just result in the Low Coolant light being on all the time. The fact that it disappears after a bit makes me think it is dirty, or maybe there is still a coolant bubble in there that goes away when the thermostat opens. After all, I didn't...

    Undercarriage Rust Management

Hey guys. So my Buick Regal is now "salvage" after a moderate bump by a truck slightly buckled a quarter-panel. So naturally, I kept the car, since like half the purpose of this (my first) car has been to DIY what I can and learn how to do things myself and when to know when to leave it to the...

    "Low Coolant" light doesn't vanish.

OK, so it still pops up, but it always disappears when the car warms up. What could cause this?

Overfilled oil! Should I drain some, or redo.

OK, so part of it was my mistake. I had done the oil change enough times I thought it was 5L of oil, but it is 4.5L. No biggie, as you say. When I changed it, I let it drain for about an hour to be sure the extra oil wouldn't throw off my numbers. So 5L in a 4.5L shouldn't be a big deal, as you...

    AC Repair questions.

OK, so here is my update. I decided to try to confirm for myself whether or not it would be worth doing the work immediately. My dad can get an evacuator fairly cheap, and I found a gauge set for $40. Not as bad as I was thinking. So anyway, I went ahead and refilled it. The car takes 36oz of...

    AC Repair questions.

    - Yes. The cooling was working. Slow, but it worked. The compressor clutch would not cycle. - The pressures were NOT flipped. "Too High" does not mean "High" - The mechanic gave me the option to evacuate the freon after the check. So I had him go ahead and evacuate it. I don't have money to...

    AC Repair questions.

I sent my car in to troubleshoot a growling noise the AC was making. After about an hour, they took me into the shop to show me what was going on. The low pressure side was too high, and the high pressure side was too low. And when the engine would rev, these would not budge. They said it was a...

Overfilled oil! Should I drain some, or redo.

It was just something I saw when searching on various forums and QA sites for symptoms of overfilling oil. I came here to verify, because I feel better about BITOG. If you guys said to worry about it, then I would look farther into it. But if it is some urban myth [censored], then I wouldn't...

Overfilled oil! Should I drain some, or redo.

It was all 5 of the holes, plus about a hole distance above. This is on a warm engine. So that comes to what, a quart?

    "Low Coolant" light doesn't vanish.

It turns out, coolant wasn't draining from the reservoir properly. Pulled the hose out, and nothing came through. So I replaced the hose, and it seems to work. It still pops up sometimes, but disappears when the engine warms up. Does that sound like it needs to be burped again?

Overfilled oil! Should I drain some, or redo.

I overfilled my Regal yesterday. I didn't realize it at the time, because it looked like it was just at the full line. But when I checked it today, it was up well above the full line, and I noticed the occasional stutter of the engine, almost like a small misfire now and again. Anyway, I'm...

Is running "Engine flush" before a change legit?

OK, so I am going to do an oil change this weekend. I put about 1/3 of a can of seafoam in, and then I am going to put in some high-mileage pureplus in there this weekend when I am changing everyone's oil.
