QS Full Synthetic vs. QS Ultimate differences?

Are there significant differences between QS Full Synthetic and QS Ultimate protection oils? I have been a dedicated user of QS full synthetic oil for years now (and QS Ultimate Durability before the name change) in all my Mazdas (8 to date). The full synthetic is getting harder to find either...

    2026 Mazda CX-5 Revealed

I agree! I currently have a 21 CX5 and a 25 CX30. If I needed something larger I would get a CX70 or something else but I don't need something larger nor want it. I like the size of my CX5, it's perfect for my needs and I doubt I'd get the new one. In fact I'm currently looking for a new 25 CX5...

    Dealership negotiations...

I do not try to nickel and dime myself or the dealer. It's not worth the time or the brain damage. They always go with the lowest price shown on Kelly, Edmunds, local auctions etc. Kelly usually has the highest trade-in values and I hold out for the "excellent" category value. I traded in my...

    Dealership negotiations...

I'm an old fart and their eyes light up when they see me coming. After driving the car I'm looking for I let them know I have little patience and hate the car buying experience. I then just say make me an offer I can't refuse for the car I like. Naturally they low ball my trade ( my trades are 4...

Anyone Driven Snow Compounds this time of the year

I'm usually pretty good at holding off on installing snows until it gets cold out and remove them early in the spring as the pavement heats up. But when my snows get down to less than half tread depth I'll run them into the early summer to get my money's worth out of them. That's what I hate the...

    Dumb lug nut question

I have a 19, 21mm, and breaker bar in my car tool kit. It offers much better leverage than the stock lug nut wrench.

Trenching PEX for air to a shed?

Based on the intended use mentioned above. I'd suggest a small pancake compressor. A Ridgid from Home Depot only costs 119.00 or so and can power a surprising number of useful tools. I'd bet your line cost, fittings, extra tank and not to mention the brain damage putting it all together would...

Any opinions on Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3?

My experience is that all tires get a lot noisier as they wear out. The Toyo OEM tires on my 21 CX5 got noisy as they approached 3/32 or so. The Pirelli's (scorpion +3) that replaced those have been incredibly quiet so far but I'm only at 20K miles or so. I had the same issue with my 2016 CX5...

    Primewell Valera HT

Primewell has been around a while and is sold in a lot of Firestone stores as an economy option. For everyday driving they should be just fine. Naturally if they're used it will depend on age, mileage and condition, just like any other used tire, on whether they should be replaced or not.

    Coolant for 2002 Nissan Frontier

One would think changing/selecting a coolant would be easier than selecting motor oil. I have no idea what is currently in the truck (I bought it used 5 or so years ago with only 65K miles on it). It appears to be a yellow green color. I will drain the system, then do a flush with tap water (we...

    Coolant for 2002 Nissan Frontier

I'm about to change radiator hoses and coolant on my 02 nissan PU truck. The manual naturally calls for Genuine Nissan coolant. A bit of research seems that this is just more or less an ethylene glycol fluid. I was thinking of just using some Super Tech Extended life Yellow coolant (says it's a...

What was the first car you worked on regularly?

A 65 corvair was my first car. I was 18 and knew squat about caring for cars. I started with oil changes and graduated to front wheel bearing repacking (they were easily washed out with water). Several friends showed me how to use a timing light, replace and set points and condensers to become...

Anyone using Turtle Wax "Ceramic Wash & Wax"?

I'm going back to bucket washing. I have not seen any better results using a foam gun and several popular soaps for it. I've been using Turtle wax Hybrid Ceramic Spray for a quick shine after washes. I stumbled across Turtle Wax Ceramic Wash and Wax and was wondering if this was a decent product...

Good Source for One Off Sockets, Wrenches ?

I have gotten along with my old craftsman stuff. My dad bought me tools for Christmas and birthdays. I'm 76 now so that gives you an idea of the age of most of them. I kept buying Craftsman stuff until Sears closed (then switched to Husky) and that seems about the time their quality was...

A personal auto ownership history story to share

Your experience brought back some more memories. The Corvair was definitely not without it's share of problems. It called for 20W oil in the winter and 30W for the summer. In cold Michigan winters the motor would often not turn over in the morning. I eventually tried one of those new 10w30...

A personal auto ownership history story to share

I'm surprised. I'm six foot and had friends several inches taller than me that never complained when they drove mine on road trips. Cars back then had more seat travel and head room in general. Yes, it made the rear seat basically unusable but the rear seat back was also a fold down parcel...

A personal auto ownership history story to share

Never had the Goat or the Firebird, but got to drive both when my dad's friend had them. The Firebird was a dog. It had the 326 with the 2 barrel carb and 2 speed powerglide. The GTO had the base 4 barrel 400 cu. in. motor with a 3 spd. turbo hydramatic. That was a nice car for sure. What's...

Brand recommendation for Power tools (drill, small impact, screwdriver) for apartment?

Ryobi is a great option for light duty use. For a step up in quality and warranty Ridgid tools from HD may be the way to go. Not much more expensive for above average quality, selection, and surprising no question asked warranties even on batteries.
