Royal Purple Oil filter with Dino oil ??

UPDATE : Surprisingly, the Valvoline HM synthetic 0-20W oil triggered the "OCI monitor" on my 2008 Honda Civic at the the same point where the Chevron Dyno oil triggered an oil change warning. ( About 6200 miles ). The brand new Royal Purple filter did not matter - i got the same OCI triggered...

    "High end" oil filters

On the other hand, someone could make the following argument regarding Extendend Range oil filters like M1 or Royal purple: These filters are designed for 15k miles of usage, and hence they will reach a peak efficiency in filtering sub 25 micron particles, as they load up on in-solubles over...

Thanks for that chart, ZeeOSix. It would be wonderful to see a chart like that published here for Mobile 1 Extended, Royal Purple Extended and Bosch. Would make comparison much easier.

    "High end" oil filters

Mad hatter - what you say makes sense. The way you describe is true for air filters - so one would naturally assume that it holds good for oil filters also. As the pores get clogged, perhaps they would create smaller pores, and hence capture the smaller particles. ....... unless there is...

    "High end" oil filters

Since some of the old oil stays behind in the engine (and in the oil filter, in case someone is using the same filter for 2 oil changes), there is likelihood that the sub 20 micron particles will stay behind in the engine for long time. So, in the case of an old car (say over 100 k or over)...

    "High end" oil filters

I have been wondering about the "holding capacity" of Mobile 1 Extended Performance filter, RP and Bosch Premium FILTECH. I can not find anything on net about RP but M1 has been quoted as the biggest holding capacity of 28 grams and Bosch at 14 grams. Anyone know the capacity of RP Extended filter ?

Royal Purple Oil filter with Dino oil ??

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I learnt something new (about leaving the filter on, during oil change). Also came to know that there is some used oil left behind in the engine, and the oil in the filter is less compared to what is left present in engine. So, not all old oil...

Royal Purple Oil filter with Dino oil ??

Pardon me 4wd. I didn't mean to offend you. I think there was some disconnect in the communication because i didn't quite understand what you were saying before. What if the filter was taken out, the rubber gasket area cleaned thoroughly (perhaps using a cotton bud ?), new oil rubbed on the...

Royal Purple Oil filter with Dino oil ??

The very purpose of paying a premium price for a filter like RP is to be able to use it for long range. If i can not use it for at least as much as Mobil extended filter, then i would not be considering it. M1 filter is rated for 15k miles. Between my cars, i have over 100 k now (reusing either...

Royal Purple Oil filter with Dino oil ??

The guy who is talking about oil properties in detail seems knowledgeable. That article mentioned last in my post above is worth reading. Check it out and see what you think about filter changes. I have talked to the customer support of RP filter, and they are did not even say an ok to reuse the...

Royal Purple Oil filter with Dino oil ??

I have switched to Valvoline Synthetic High mileage oil at 153k miles, along with a new RP filter. Perhaps i should have switched to this oil around 100k (hindsight is 20 / 20), which would have fixed my oil leak issues before they started. Did a steam clean of engine area, before i put in the...

    alternative to blackstone vacuum pump?

In my lastest sample to Blackstone labs, i used the following trick that worked perfectly..... Bought a siphon hand pump from amazon that had .25 diameter in/out ends. Bought 10 ft of 0.25 inch (ID) tubing from HD. Cut about 4 ft and push into the oil dipstick area (after driving car for about...

Yellow color valvoline ?? Help needed with oil leak....

Thanks for the suggestions, i will tighten up the oil pan nuts and change washer etc next time around. Is there any way to protect all the hoses in engine compartment with a spray or such, before they all need change (causing major money pit owning this car) ?? I have not done anything as...

Yellow color valvoline ?? Help needed with oil leak....

Yes, this leak is in a 2008 Civic LX (1.8L) engine. Oil level is not dropping noticeably in the dipstick, and i have never had to top up oil so far. Even the dealership guys around here are not trustworthy, and if i take it to anyone and say "oil leak needs fix" - i have gotten estimates as much...

Yellow color valvoline ?? Help needed with oil leak....

69 Torino, thanks. Looked into it. It is only 49 lumen brightness. Are you able to see engine oil leak in a brightly lit garage space ? Do you use yellow goggles or they are not required ? (if i use a dye)

Yellow color valvoline ?? Help needed with oil leak....

I remember reading somewhere valvoline makes oils in different colors. Bottom of the oil pan area is showing leaks, but not sure where it is coming from. Car is at 149 K miles, but has not used HM oil before. Here is my plan to find out where the leak is coming from ...... Need comments.... Get...
