Virgin Fram FS8A Titanium oil filter cut open vs Fram XG8A oil filter

I bought a cartridge type Titanium the other day for my 3.6 Colorado. The box said synthetic blend media. I was thinking that both the Titanium and Ultra were synthetic media filters? I'm not complaining but $15 for a blend filter is kinda steep.

    First Oil Change

I've always done it on every new truck I have owned. I actually do my first few oil changes a bit on the early side. What model Toyota is it by the way?

Best oil additive to stop engine knock?

Have you considered just running a heavier oil in it? I had an old Cub Cadet lawn tractor that smoked and was a little noisy so I just ran 20w-50 conventional in it. It still used a little oil but ran decent.

    ILSAC GF-6A & API SP

I can get API SP/ GF6 Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 in 5 quart jugs and 1 quart bottles at my local Wal Mart. I can also get Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-30 in the 5 quart jug but not in the single quarts yet. Everything else is SN Plus/ GF5. I'm waiting for my local Kendall distributor to get the new...

Survey: Does gear oil smell TERRIBLE to you or just so-so?

I wouldn't say it smells pleasant but if you really wanted to smell something bad then find an old bottle of limited slip additive from days gone by. That stuff was horrid.

SUNOCO missing from TOP TIER list ,

Thank you so much for the heads-up. I have been buying mostly Sunoco for the last year and a half simply because they were Top Tier. Since they have decided to cheap out I will take my few hundred dollars of fuel purchases a month to BP, Shell and Exxon.

Appropriate oil for high mileage GM 5.3

Have you considered Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-30? I use it in my friend's 2007 Chevy Avalanche 5.3 V8 with 172,000 miles. Works great and it has stopped a minor oil leak. It's on the thick side for a 5w-30.

    Unless it is a misprint?

You are correct, Sir. We are all oil nerds here on BITOG though and we dig comparing various specs on oils we use or want to try.

    Unless it is a misprint?

I'll stick with it since you fellas have convinced me that the viscosity of the 5w-30 is a typo. Hopefully SOPUS puts the correct specs up soon.

    Unless it is a misprint?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I feel better now knowing that it almost absolutely has to be a misprint.

    Unless it is a misprint?

Yes sir. Right on Pennzoil's own website.

    Unless it is a misprint?

I'm dumping it tomorrow and going back to a real 5w-30 like Mobil 1 or Kendall SN Plus which are 11.0 100C viscosities

    Unless it is a misprint?

The new Pennzoil Platinum API SP 5w-30 is actually a 5w-20. Its 100C viscosity is only 8.6. I wish I would have known that before doing an oil change and putting 6 quarts in my Colorado 3.6 V6 today.

    1965 Mustang 289 - Recommended oils

If you can get it, Penn Grade 1 syn-blend 10w-30 would serve that old flat-tappet cam engine well.

    Napa/Wix oil filter question

I just installed a Wix XP in in my Chevy Colorado 3.6 V6 and it was made in Poland. It had the Affinia name on the box and it was a 57090XP if I remember correctly?

    What happened at Chevron?

I saw a recent TDS on the Havoline Pro DS synthetic 5w-30 and I noticed some changes from before. It is a tad thicker at 100c than it was before and the pour point has gone from -45 to -27. It used to have really nice cold cranking numbers and I was looking forward to using it for the winter but...

    Kendall Motor Oil

The Kendall performance oil is called GT-1 Competition. It is a conventional base oil. They do also make an oil called Nitro 70. Wonder if anybody in NHRA uses it?

    Kendall Motor Oil

Kendall used to be a Pennsylvania company and I believe the old Kendall GT-1 and the Brad Penn Penn Grade 1 performance oils came out of the same refinery tower. That was before Kendall was bought by ConocoPhillips and Brad Penn was bought by DA Lubricants. DA claims that the Penn Grade 1...
