Can we extend OCI in cars burning oil?

Just visited Honda dealership, they told me they could run a test, but their excessive consumption starts at 1L/1000 miles which is basically adding more than 7 quarts between oil changes... Well, so much for Japanese quality :-)

Can we extend OCI in cars burning oil?

WOW - lots of replies overnight!!! BITOG community is going strong! Interesting thoughts here, appreciate everyone's reply - my opinion is that a quart every 2000 miles is not a big deal, but annoying as [censored]! I considered going to Honda and talking to them about the issue, but tearing the...

    Mobil 1 0w-20 EP, 7994 miles, '16 Honda Accord

Does Honda actually call for synthetic oil in the manual? The reason I am asking because I am wondering if the oil monitor is calibrated for regular or synthetic fill? We have CRV that uses the same engine...

Can we extend OCI in cars burning oil?

Hello, Last year we purchased used HONDA CR-V with 30k miles only to find out its burning ~2.5 quarts of oil between standard oil changes ( it takes 4 quarts ). The manual calls for filter change every OTHER oil change, but running Mobil 1 ( slightly thicker 10W-30 instead of 0W-20 the manual...

    Oil change time interval

Hi BITOG folks! I have an old high mileage back up car - Mustang 4.6*V8 that I do not drive much these days. How long can I keep the synthetic oil inside the engine before changing it? I do not drive much, but when I do, its all long highway trips... What is the best place for a buck to get a...

    SV650 UOA Rotella

Thanks guys. I found another SV650 here on the forum, and his wear metals are also high, may be even higher per 1000 miles than mine. Although he had a shorter OCI. He tracks his bike though... I wonder if its something about Suzuki motors... Next time I will be using a different oil...

    2007 Suzuki SV650S, 2843 miles, Mobil 1 10W-40

Check out my UOA from SV650 2007. At first I was worried when I checked the report but then I saw yours - its somewhat similar. I do not race but kept the oil for a pretty long time. About a year and >5300 miles... Our wear metals are pretty high... http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6867/qxqp.jpg

    SV650 UOA Rotella

Here is my latest oil analisys. I expected pretty usual stuff, since I do not race or track, and do mostly highway riding in normal summer temps, but I got this report, which makes me a little worried... The only thing I can think of is that I took the sample right at the beginning as I removed...

What exactly do the VW specs mean?

Seems like the point with European specs is not how to maintain your engine for the least amount of money but how to save the natural resources, at any cost. I mean do you think there is any point in keeping the oil for 20000 miles inside the engine apart of conservation? Oil is cheap here is...

Which oil for Mustang GT 06 25k miles?

Little confused about 5W-20 (or 5W-30) recommendation. Thinking of using GC 0W-30, or Mobil 0W-30)... Long highway trips, Philadelphia weather... No exteded OCIs... BTW - are there oversized filters for Mustangs? Would I be better off using 0W or thicker 5W or even 1oW oils? New to Ford V8s...

    Oil change question

I used Shell 15W-40 once and the valvetrain noise on cold morning starts was unbearable! ( could have been the filter, but I am inclined to think oil ) And, I am in NJ - so it was not THAT cold -just around freezing. Since then I do not quite like the thicker oils so much... BTW my oil...

    Oil change question

Hi, I got Corolla 1.8L with 260000 miles on it ('96). It goes throught a quart of oil every 1000 miles. So I wonder - should I bother draining oil or just replace a filter every 000 miles and keep adding new oil? I usually use synthetic 10W-30... ( now Valvoline from 2 for 1 sale )

Japan not too happy with GF-4 Oils ?

I had recently replaced a timing belt on my Corolla 96, 200 000 miles on the engine, and it was not nearly as difficult as I imagined. I could do it again in about an hour, if I had too. The most stupid part of it is that you need to take the valve train cover off to change the belt, not just...

    SuperTech vs Purolator

I am using 3600 filters in my Saturn SL, an oversized version of recommended 3614. I had two filters, SuperTech from Walmart and Purolator. I used them both in a past. I can see some sort of device in Purolator at the bottom, some sort of valve, bypass or ADB I do not know. The SuperTech does...

Why bother to finish the GC test?

My first GC 0-30 purchase after reading this forum. Stopped at the local AZ, presented PepBoys coupon, and got two boxes of Batch 04 stuff ( which is distributed from NJ where I live ) for 4$/qrt. Not bad, huh?
