If the original slide pins have built up residue that is affecting their smoothness, then a good cleaning with a wire brush might restore. I doubt they are rusted. Try and keep them, OEM or aftermarket doesn't really matter, the pins are pretty easy for any vendor to produce or source.

Slide pins were tight? get that fixed before firing the parts cannon. Sil-Glide for the pins, but don't over do it, too much creates problems.

I think the OEM's are using a convenient excuse to assign blame, as required, for a political requirement to source product from other areas.
