True Story about Cabin Air Filter

He took the car to a shop and they didn't check it? At my shop, we ALWAYS check HVAC filter during any inspection/test/diagnosis of the blower OR A/C. Its too easy to check, and it can make a big difference in HVAC performance (as you found out!) Plus, its an easy sell. Most cars: .2h labor...

Why DIrect Injection is really bad!

Ummmmm..... that doesnt look too bad... This looks like a Honda J series. All but the very newest Honda Js are "regular" fuel injection. So im 95% sure this is NOT a picure of a DI issue. What kind of car is this?

    New cars: Oil viscosity detection?

Yes! Dodge/Chrysler Hemis with MDS can set a DTC if 20wt oil is not used. Apparently it skews the MDS multi displacement system

    Stupid car buying question

Most dealers around here prefer that you do not pay in cash (as in literal physical cash). It adds a lot of work load to the dealer. Two people have to count it (upon payment, and then at close of business). Someone has to deposit it at the bank, and if it is over 10k (and it usually is), then...

    Mobil One FS x2 5w50

Whats the skinny on this "new" version of 5w50? I've been using Mobil 15w50 for years in my old BMW and would like something a touch thinner. The Mobile website says it still carries Porsche A40 approval, ACEA A3/B3 A3/B4, MB 229.1/229.3, blah blah. Its probably GTL like the new M1 0w40 FS...

    Auto manufacturer's ethanol approval test

I've never heard of that, but it would be hard to test E85 in that manner, and plenty of newer vehicles are flex-fuel. Ethanol is ethanol, what form is most acidic?

    Wrong Oil in Crankcase

Reminds me of Toyota spin-on filters. I was a lube tech at a Toyota dealer (before cartridge filters) and the factory filter were glued or install with a power tool. HUGE pain to remove

Dorman Aluminum Coolant Elbows Anygood ?

Yes, we use them at my shop on all GM 3800s. If the elbows have to come off (for part failure, tensioner replacement, or LIM/head work), those go on. Cheap insurance, and a +1 on a light film of lube.

    Honda 3.5L and 0w20

Ah. I forgot about VCM. That sucks. My wife wants a newer Odyssey and i keep telling her the 04 is the best to have. It was build AFTER the the bad transmission Hondas but BEFORE the VCM. And anything below +20*F is downright apocalyptic to Carolinians

    Honda 3.5L and 0w20

I have an 04 Odyssey with J35 and 202k miles that specs 5w20, and I've ran M1 0w20 AFE for the last 100k (changed every 7500). Doesn't leak a drop and uses just under 1 qrt in 7500. No issues. Syn oil is too cheap not to use. Mild climate? Dude, it was 5*F outside last month lol.

    My $200 beater - 2003 Pontiac Vibe

Someone was sending THAT to the junkyard? Some people have no respect for a running car lol. Ive seem people drive in cars 10x worse. That car would sell for $1500 here in NC (once cleaned up) I wouldn't bother changing any cooling system parts just yet. Just closely inspect and change the...

My mechanic installed FCS front struts, trouble?

Did he get the parts online? He probably DID pay more for them at a local distributor. And so what if he marked the parts up? (besides the fact that he said he didn't, that is...) All shops mark up parts, its a business. You did not get "ripped off". You paid a fair price for cheap struts. I...
