Scary the similarities with the Mobil 0-40.

High HTHS, HDEO, 10W30 oil. Is that a contradiction in terms?

One problem is the fact that the engines were stuffed below the floor, with not enough vertical room for a normal oil pan. 4 qts. is max, inc. filter (51515), so the question is whether the extra capacity of the larger filter (+1qt) is more value than less filtering???

High HTHS, HDEO, 10W30 oil. Is that a contradiction in terms?

I was using Wix 51515, upgraded to napa 41515 platinum. Haven't UOA with that one yet. I see there are 2-qt versions available.

High HTHS, HDEO, 10W30 oil. Is that a contradiction in terms?

Having trouble with recently rebuilt BBC marine engine, high copper and iron, 99 and 73, respectively. Was using (after breakin) Amsoil HD Diesel and Marine, 15-40. I'm thinking it is too heavy, oil pressure holds at 60 lbs until hot than will drop to 50 at idle, 60 running. Now have 100 hours...

    Napa Platinum

True, but the WIX XP costs more than $9.

    Napa Platinum

Platinum 41515 (PH8A) on sale this month for $9. I use for my boat, haven't had much luck with Wix 51515, trying the NAPA's.

    ZDDP in used cars

I just bought 2 comp cams to install in BBC rebuilds. Comp told me if I didn't use high zddp breakin oil, it would ruin the cams/lifters, and there would be no warranty coverage. The cams that came out were significantly worn, exhaust down around 10 thou. We used to use Rotella in them, but...

    MetroPCS

I had Metro for a couple months a year ago; it was the worst service I ever had. Part of the problem is the fact that is a red-headed stepchild of T-Mobil, it gets whatever bandwidth is left over. Dropped calls, downloads stopped in the middle, finally gave up. The good thing is there are no...

    Another "best" oil filter

LOL, I see nothing has changed, a dozen different options. I will be using Amzoil filters after the first 20-30 minutes, this first one is just to get the bigger lumps out of the oil. Using Amzoil break-in, then Z-Rod from then on. These engines are in my boat, I bought a couple remans from...

    Another "best" oil filter

I haven't been following this forum for years, and things change. I'm rebuilding a couple BBCs and looking for a good break-in oil filter, under $8. Opinions, please??? PH8A equivalent.

1989 Silverton 34' motorcruiser oil filter

Jeez, learn something new everyday. I always thought the PH8A was a ford filter, probably just go with the Motorcrafts. These are just screwed on the block like a car, I think they were running straight 30 or 40 oil, must have been doing something right as the engines have 2700 hrs on them.

1989 Silverton 34' motorcruiser oil filter

Recently bought this old boat and trying to bring it up on maintenance. She has two Mercruiser (GMC) 454 inboards, and the existing oil filters are orange can PH8A. [censored]? While these engines have a few mods to make them more marine useful, I can't imagine they would have changed the oil...

    Mobil 1 0w-40 // 3,100 miles // 2002 BMW 525i

This car gets well driven, and the temps here are close to 100 in the summer, even spring it gets up to 90's. Since the BMW spec oil is not only high HTHS, but also very close to a 40 weight, I mix for that reason. 10W30 and 10W40 are both M1 HM oils. Also since it takes 7 qts +, it is easy to...

    Mobil 1 0w-40 // 3,100 miles // 2002 BMW 525i

I have a 325ci with 125000 miles. Been using a mix of 10W30HM and 10W40HM for some time, have a couple of blackstone analysis to go with. I do get to drive it to temp, plus in SoCal it has a chance to warm up pretty well. My readings have been excellent, and I have no desire whatsoever to change...

    Mobil 1 High milage?

Depending on the grade, HM 10W-30 and 40 pass A3/B3 which includes requirements to hold HTHS of at least 3.5 or greater. Tough european spec, most oils won't meet it. So I wouldn't say it has no specs. I use it in my BMWs and the analysis comes back great. Mike

Best motor oil for a 2001 BMW 525i?

There's nothing too magical about the 6-cyl. bmw. I have two, well engineered, last forever, one has 185K miles, the other 130K. Neither uses oil. I have been using M1 HM 10-30, A3-B3, with excellent analysis from [censored]. No need to spend more; I change at 7500 mi. with room to spare. $22 at...
