    Anyone here still using 15w40?

Only due to Gov regs. Oil consumption has become alot more common in engines used under heavy loads since manufacturers have switched to lighter oils.

    Diesel additives for DPF/EGR longevity

You can induce a forced regen while driving because that is the way VW set the parameters. Not all manufacturers are the same. Cummins calls it a stationary desoot because it can only be performed when..... stationary.

    Diesel additives for DPF/EGR longevity

Alpha OBD. Gives you a lot of capabilities that were previously only accessible with witech. It is a high level tool at a very reasonable cost.

    Diesel additives for DPF/EGR longevity

13-18 6.7 performs an active regen every 24 engine hrs. Miles aren't a factor. Not sure if this changed 19+ when they updated the engine internals/cp4. I don't know that it helps. But I perform a stationary desoot once per year prior to an oil change. One thing it does is keep a lower % in the...

Changing Oil Brand for My 6.7

With so little miles/hrs the boutique oils are a waste of money (it can be argued they are, anyhow) I have been using Delvac Extreme 15w40 in my truck and 10w30 in my tractor and small engines for a long time. Generally you can take advantage of Mobil's excellent rebates but they did not offer...

    Cummins QSB oil viscosity recommendations

I've yet to see a 6.7 of any variation factory filled with 10w30. The book I took the picture from recommends 15w40 in ambient temps above 5*F, and lists the chart as acceptable alternative viscosities for temps below 5*F.

    Cummins QSB oil viscosity recommendations

@ George, they are the same engine, and being they are both tier IV compliant they both utilize the CM2350 (ECM). If you were to download the ISB owners manual it would be the exact same one. I'm aware of the cold weather advantages 5w40 carries,. I am specifically interested in why Cummins...

    Cummins QSB oil viscosity recommendations

Looking at the engine operators manual of a QSB 6.7 I operate, and they list 10w30 at a lower ambient operating temperature than 5w40. Can anybody elaborate on this? Does 10w30 really have a better CCS than 5w40? Seems backward to me but there has to be some reasoning here. I trust anything that...

    Coolant: 2EHA Tests (DexCool)

Gonna have to find a different brand to test than Peak if your looking for problems. They are a non 2EH formula and one of the better organic acid technology "universal" type coolants on the market. I've personally ran this through my Cummins engines for hundreds of thousands of miles with not...

Found some CI-4/SL oil at a gas station.

Hopefully someone much better qualified than me can answer that but from my experiences no. The Schaeffer rep spec'd out CJ4 to my cousin for his farm equipment, 90% of which is made up of pre emission engines. It is what he recommends as the best value for the extended service interval program...

Which of the big three in 15W-40 CK4

Dnewton, by no means an expert on the matter but I suspect Ford will be able to do no such thing. If they do have evidence of wear unfortunately it's likely from a shortfall in their specific head design rather than an oil formula. I understand how the thought of that can upset owners but of all...

Which of the big three in 15W-40 CK4

I think Schaeffers planned for the obsolescence of CJ4 - my local rep says he can now only get it in drums, no more gallons. All CK4 from here which is just fine with me. I have absolute faith my engines will not seize up on the first oil change

Which of the big three in 15W-40 CK4

Interesting that Cummins has approved extension of oil service intervals by 10k miles with FA4 oils - I wonder what the driver is behind that.
