    Scammers on Craigslist?

I recently had my well pump replaced. The old well pump is still good and I advertised it for free on Craigslist. I hate to scrap something somebody can use. I get an immediate reply with a local area code phone number. I call the number immediately and leave a voicemail. No further response...

    Where to buy Magnefine filters?

Good Afternoon - I run a Magnefine transmission filter on my Dodge Caravan. I used to buy them directly from the Magnefine website to avoid getting a counterfeit copy. That website is off line, at least for me. Is buying Magnefines from Amazon safe ? Thanks in advance for any advice :)

    Dexos 1 Gen 2 vs Dexos 1 Gen 3

I have a 2019 Chevy Colorado with V6. I run 5w30 Mobil 1 and a factory Delco oil filter. The old Mobil 1 jug is marked Dexos 1 Gen 2 and the new jug is marked Dexos 1 Gen 3. Can I mix this stuff? I assume it is compatible but wanted to check. Thanks in advance for any advice. :)

Apocalypse plumbing AKA the basement crap flood

Pix are from my basement. A poorly supported main sewer pipe came loose and caused a minor crap flood when the washer drained. Luckily the basement is unfinished concrete so no real damage. I was working alone so I put two eye bolts above the pipe and lifted it with a length of rope. Installed...

    Quick Door Hanger Review

I recently hung my first interior door at an old house I am fixing up. I used a new product called a Quick Door Hanger instead of the usual wood shims. The hanger kit costs about 5 dollars at Home Depot. The kit contains 6 brackets that screw to the prehung door frame, 3 on each side. You put...

    Gas Bandit Blocker

I have an older Dodge Caravan and live in the country. My gas mileage dropped off to 6 MPG and I suspected the local kids were siphoning my gas. The Gas Bandit Blocker is a tapered coil spring. Using a long screwdriver, you thread the spring into the fuel filler till it disappears. The spring...

clogged drain? Shop vac for the win!

Got a call from a tenant. "I dropped something down the drain and now it is clogged. I need this fixed NOW!" In tenant speak "something" can be a wedding ring or a baby hippo. Got my shop vac with Clean Stream waterproof filter ( blatant plug ) and vacced out the drain. Got a bunch of small...

    Apocalypse Plumbing cut and post

The picture is a 1 1/2 inch galvanized pipe elbow installed in 1970. The blockage is a solid chunk of rust that closed off most of the pipe. I could never figure why the bathtub drained so slowly:) Anyhow the old pipe was cut out with a sawzall and replaced with Fernco fittings and PVC. That...

    Weedwhacker keeps stalling

Good Evening. I have a Craftsman weedwhacker model number 358791072. I have always run stabilized E0 gas and synthetic 2 cycle oil and never had a problem. Now, the engine will only run with the choke on. Opening the throttle kicks the choke off and it struggles to gain RPM and then stalls. I...

    filter for home heating oil

I heat my home with oil. The typical home heating oil filter has an element that looks like different colors of recycled wool compressed around a wire core. The design always looked sketchy to me, as I was worried about wool fibers detaching and plugging the burner nozzle. My local hardware...

    Substitutes for home heating oil

I heat my home with oil and am a little worried about events in the sandbox making heating oil expensive or impossible to get. Years ago, I was under employed, nearly broke, and needed heating oil. Most heating oil dealers have a minimum delivery amount ( cannot blame them ) and I did not have...

    Buying a cheap, beater bicycle

A lovely bike trail opened up in my county. The trail is wide, paved, mostly flat, and runs alongside a canal with amazing views. I have not ridden a bike for about 50 years now, but, would like to give it a try. The only bike rental in my area rents specialized bikes for $100 per day, so...

Anti theft measures for new truck

I just bought a 2019 Chevy Colorado. The neighborhood Facebook page said trucks are being stolen from driveways in this area. Any ideas for a quick security device that I can install or have installed? I thought about a steering wheel lock or a switch to cut power to the fuel pump. The method...

This weekend I changed the oil and filter in a 2012 Chevy Cruze and 2019 Chevy Colorado V6. Both vehicles take the AC PF2257G filter. The Colorado has 1600 miles and the Cruze 43K miles. I inspected the filter from the Colorado and found a few tiny shavings which look like aluminum from a...

Nu Finish - Second coat beneficial?

I recently cleaned and waxed my wife's 2012 Cruze with a clay bar and Nu Finish. The car looks good but, I was wondering about a second coat of Nu Finish. Does a second coat of Nu Finish build up a thicker layer of weather protection, or, is one layer enough? Does a second coat look glossier...
