What I seen when they are used in cars and trailers is that it gets badly oxidation in them and the wires breaks off or get bad connection due to the oxidation. They would do fine if it was some kind of moisture/water seal to them.

I belive in to big tolerances and bad finish and there a thicker oil will make it last longer but not so long that a well built engine with the right tolerances would be holding up. The 0w40 may just be a way to give GM a little longer time to built enough engines for replace the bad ones

A Tahoe or Suburban if you would a bigger space for equipment. I made some long roadtrips with our old 1996 Tahoe and then later a 2002 Suburban when the familly got bigger. Real comfortable ride with a lot of packing space. Great tow capacity if needed and good 4wd and even a 4wd low if needed.
