Sludge, help collecting on valve covers

How cold is it there? A 50/50 mixture of antifreeze is good to about -40F isn't it? I agree with a UOA, probably on way to know for sure.

    Made in USA listing site

Yes, thank you for that! Less and less made in the USA and people wonder why the economy is bad! As an aside, I love these companies, like Stanley thermos, who tout that they have been in business for X number of years and go on about their quality. I sent them an email asking where their...

    Amsoil 5w30 ASL 9,421 miles 03 Jeep Liberty 3.7L

Tones - Seems like (I use 'seems' because I don't have empirical data) it has always used some oil. This OCI was during 10,000 miles so 1 quart may not be much. I’ve always used 5w30 and from the first oil change I’ve used synthetic. Dominic – if you mean oil filtration, I used an Amsoil EaO...

    Amsoil 5w30 ASL 9,421 miles 03 Jeep Liberty 3.7L

Thanks Pablo! I think I might try the ACD. I did some costs analyses and it seems that using PP and 7,000 mile OCI would be about $10 cheaper a year. But I like the idea of not having to change the oil as often. For $10 it would be worth it! In your opinion could I go another change with same...

    Amsoil 5w30 ASL 9,421 miles 03 Jeep Liberty 3.7L

Pablo - Why the ATM or ACD? Because of the higher weight? I was thinking about going to a 10w30 for this vehicle because it seems to use 5w30. Not much though, in this run used about a quart in a little bit less than 10,000 miles. But I've noticed with 5w30 (which is what I've used in it) that...

Amsoil EaO Filter - More Than One Change?

They are guaranteed for 25,000 miles but their website advises to change the filter at each oil change. So it seems like using the filter for multiple oil changes is not what they have in mind.

    Amsoil 5w30 ASL 9,421 miles 03 Jeep Liberty 3.7L

Mike - yes, first time for oil brand. Lab said I could go 10,000 miles which would be only about 600 more miles. That was based on TBN of 2. Tackleberry625 - the UA for Iron is 34, so this reading seems good. Daman - I think if I backed it to 7,000 - 7,500 I would use PP and probably a WIX. I...

Amsoil EaO Filter - More Than One Change?

10,000 miles on the filter, 6 months time. You can check out the UOA, I posted it today (03 Jeep Liberty). I'd like to use it for another 10,000 miles and 6 months. Amsoil again (ASL 5w30). Any opinions?

    Amsoil 5w30 ASL 9,421 miles 03 Jeep Liberty 3.7L

I was hoping to go a year with this oil but based on TBN (2) I don't think I will. The oil was in 6 months. Not sure whether it is SM or earlier. Silicon was a little high; I've changed the air filter but Blackstone thought it wasn't bad considering mileage on oil. MI/HR on Oil 9,421 MI/HR on...

2001 Ford Ranger 4.0L to Amsoil

Oilboy I've never had an UOA done on this vehicle so I thought I would keep it short.

2001 Ford Ranger 4.0L to Amsoil

We bought an 01 Ranger in January 07 with a little less than 75,000 miles on it. As soon as possible I started an Auto Rx treatment. Just finished the rinse phase. I purchased the 5W30 ASL Amsoil and an EaO filter. I also installed a Fumoto valve. I'm hoping to go a year or 25,000 on the oil. I...

    Another oil study...

From where did that article come? What country I mean. Isn't that test useless as a gauge of motor oils? I saw it at gun shows being used by people trying to sell some sort of lubricant, I think it was gun lubricant not for autos. I think it was nice of the guys to go through the effort but that...

    Unauthorized oil change rant!

Same thing happened to me, almost. I had just changed the oil and the dealership changed it to whatever oil they used. The service manager called and they paid for oil and filter. I changed it myself. I don't know, that close to a change I wouldn't be too upset. If you tell the service manager...

Just Noticed About EAO Oil Filters

I've never thought of using sandpaper! Good idea! I have two of the rubber wrenches (like good ole Billy Mays use to sell!!). They work IF you can get them on the filter and turn. I wish all vehicles were like my Ranger at least as far as the oil filter - easy to get to, mounted vertically.

Just Noticed About EAO Oil Filters

I have started using the nitrile gloves. Problem is with my wife's Jeep. It is difficult to get a good grip on it. The rubber band idea is good too!

Just Noticed About EAO Oil Filters

I might have to try the plier style, they might just work on the Liberty. Tempest, is the EAO15 a bigger filter? Same pressure release or whatever it is called?
