I live north of Houston and run 15W-40 in all my OPE to simplify . When we froze in 2021 and it got down to 9 degrees , my generator (2008 Briggs 10 hp) with 15W-40 fired up in two pulls.

No dipstick , fill and dribble routine.

Eventually we did , but it was close to 100k miles before being serviced .

I second the 10W-30 choice. Running 10W-30 in my Accord that specs 5W-20 , no issues with mileage or engine responsiveness .
