My new Kawasaki W230 shifts starting to feel gritty

The grittiness went away with the change to Mobil 1 V twin 20W50 but the original effortlessness didn't return.

    Oldest tool you regularly use?

Pair of channel lock pliers I found in the backyard of a house I moved into in 1991. Cleaned the rust off and they are still in my tool bag today.

My new Kawasaki W230 shifts starting to feel gritty

I was at the dealership picking up the klx230 I had bought over the Internet. Almost axed that deal when I saw the W230 in person. Kept thinking about it after and after some haggling brought the thing. Well approaching 700 miles I'll first state the obvious, it's not going to water your eyes...

    Increase valve train noise

Your probably right but listening under the same circumstance seems somewhat valid. The difference probably isn't worth mentioning just my OCD I guess.

    Increase valve train noise

What was the first car you worked on regularly?

'54 Ford 4 door. I had hung around with my grand dad and uncles who did their on car work so knew a little. I think it had a 239 Y block with a three speed over drive. I worked on it till everything was fixed I could do then traded it for another Ford money pit.

It’s the 1990’s: what motor oil and grade are you using?

Pennzoil 10w30 and 20w50 the BX would have it on sale occasionally and I'd buy a couple cases for the car, truck and bike.

    Increase valve train noise

So I changed the oil in this truck in April. Put in QS 10w30 full synthetic. Today in a drive thru I happened to remember to listen for any change in sound. Anyway the valve train noise was reduced to a whisper except one noticable tapping that I guess had been masked by the rest of the noise...

2003 Honda Accord 235k km Camshaft lobe wear. Could this be due to 0W-20 ?

Had a '03 Honda Element from new started having cam wear visible through the oil fill. That was around 180k miles. Drove it till 214k miles sold it running fine. Always used 5W20 at 5k miles change interval. Last I asked the car has 270k miles no issue. Do a GM fix go to a heavier oil and drive...

How come ac lifespan is so short on cars?

1995 Tacoma 25 years ownership a/c blowed cold throughout. 1993 Camry 10 years ownership a/c blowed cold throughout. 2003 Honda element had 2 compressions, 1 blower resistor and 1 condenser in 13 years. I'll add the Honda needed 2 window actuators, 1 door lock actuator 2 starters and an...

My new Kawasaki W230 shifts starting to feel gritty

Probably going to drop the oil (with around 300 miles on it) that came in it and put in Mobile 1 V twin 20W50. That's what I put in the KLX230 but that bike always shifted smooth and quiet. BTW I wondered if the 20w50 would cause a hit to the gas milage of 74 mpg on the KLX. Then at it's next...

Aging, loss of strength, and large bikes (like a Harley)

Bike weight started being an issue for me around 10 years ago so I started down sizing. Recently took delivery of a Kawasaki W230 and all is right with the world.

JWST finds "Strongest evidence of life..."

That there's something other than us was figured out and recorded thousands of years ago and it's not aliens. The persistent idea there has to other's is a wish for a division, at least, of responsibility. IMHO

    New Predator 9000w Generator

Well the options are keep doing what your doing or try a heavier oil. I've never had a small engine that didn't use some oil (but not as much as your saying). Long as the low oil shut off doesn't activate before low fuel requires stoping your golden IMHO.
