So, within that, it is more than possible that, for some uses, the OEM cooling system is underspecified for what the vehicle will be doing, as the system is optimised for the intended vehicle use, which, in most circumstances, means more than half vehicle power is only used for a few % of the...

Who makes a flexible, removable caulk?

It's probably just high temperature silicone, same as is sold for gasketing use on engines?

Apologies for the late reply, I had to go on the naughty step for my unacceptable language. Although, give the moderator used the same language when putting me on the naughty step, it can't be all that unacceptable.... too much oil - crankshaft splash

The issue will be when that engineer has to go and explain to the accounting department about why he's just made them buy a million extra litres of oil for the vehicle run just because he rounded up the oil to the nearest litre and made the sump a little bigger to suit.

Any idea why we have 5W-30 oils with HTHS >= 3.5?

As opposed to someone that just comes into the thread, tells everybody they don't need it, makes no effort to discuss the product, and just keeps cutting in with his own jabs and no facts too? At least I tried to keep it on topic, what did your little posts add? Same [censored] I had from you...

Steve - track tends to be high loads, yes, but not for long periods and at very high airspeeds - cooling is generally less of an issue for a car on tracks than it is for a roadcar unless highly modified - that V10 racer I showed you a while back wouldn't even get over 85*c on the race circuits...

Lifting the trailing edge of the bonnet on most modern cars will have the exact opposite effect, as it's at a higher pressure than the usual underfloor exit.

Well overengineered to cope with the abuse it's likely to take then, but I wouldn't try that with the M5

Well, unless you like running on the cooling fans all the time, no vehicle can be designed for every situation, it's impossible, because if the airspeeds are low and the power output sustained (towing, autocross, etc), they're going to have to assist the radiator. Personally, I prefer not to...

Depends on the engine, most engines these days have undersized radiators because OEM's know they'll spend 99% of their life well under full power output, so they package a smaller rad in there. Obviously if you're tracking the car, or racing, chances are the thermostat is going to be full open...

Open differential gear oil, and Moly

Millers used to do a 'black moly' diff oil, but of course, it had big warnings about using it in synchro boxes and clutch packs without making sure it was compatible first.

Napa house brand oil has the best bottles

Apologies for the infomercial link, but the new Millers bottles are pretty good, I save them and refill with other oils as they make hard to access filler caps far less likely to get messy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPhzfN5sipo

    Engine Flush/Engine Cleaner

I know a lot of garages in the UK use Wurth as they sponsor a lot of the schemes so they're required to. To be honest, never seen it make a blind bit of difference, I've done plenty of injector replacements by cars that haven't had it, and cars that have gone to the local garages all their life...
